There is a very clear Olympic home field advantage which I imagine is help from refs and comfort. I will detail how every Olympic host performed their host year and the Olympic before:

France 2024 - 16 gold : 64 total medals... 2020 - 10 gold : 33 total medals

Japan 2020 - 27 gold : 58 Total medals .... 2016 - 12 gold : 41 total medals

Brazil 2016 - 7 gold : 19 total medals .... 2012 - 3 gold : 17 total medals

England 2012 - 29 gold : 65 total medals .... 2008 - 19 gold : 51 total medals

China 2008 - 48 Gold : 100 total medals ..... 2004 - 32 Gold : 63 total medals

Greece 2004 - 6 Gold : 16 total medals .... 2000 - 4 Gold : 13 total medals

Australia 2000 - 16 Gold : 58 total medals .... 1996 - 9 gold : 41 total medals

I think the US can easily clear 50, if not 55 Gold, and 160+ total medals which would easily be a record (but more events nowadays)

160 medals would not be a record...

It would be a post-Cold War record but top 3 medal counts:

USA won 231 in 1904

USSR won 195 in 1980

USA won 174 in 1984

Those come with asterisks with the boycotts.

We will get a bump but this Olympics kind of has an asterisk because of Russia being banned. If they are back in full force they can take 60 - 70 medals out of the pool. Big "if" though.

Outside of the gymnastics events, Russia is more of an issue for China as far as golds go. Weightlifting, combat sports, etc. Which is good for us.

GD there must've been some extreme bias in those Olympics being in the US and USSR. 1904 and 1980-84

Not bias—the US boycotted the 80 games, followed by the USSR in 84.

Thank you so much for posting and sharing that that is real interesting to see so definitely you would think we would have a big bump in 2028 disappointed in that we will not be getting a gold in breaking In the 2028 LA Olympics however. It's already been announced that breaking will not be part of the 2028 summer olympics in Los Angeles.

There was a boycott of the 1976 Olympics by 29 African countries over New Zealand being in the Olympics over a New Zealand/RSA rugby match.
