Also, they were 24 and 17 years old and it was consensual and she wasn't her teacher.
This seems a bit overblown.

Yes I know "consensual" requires consent which minors can't give, but 17 is age of consent a lot of places. But they clearly were both into it and another friend saw texts and leaked it.

So the "kid" was above the age of consent, she was a willing participant, and this teacher was just 24 and while a teacher at her school, was not her teacher?
She spent a month in jail for this? Just fire her.

Actually, 16 is the age of consent in Indiana according to Wikipedia. I'm not sure how this was a crime, given that she obviously wasn't the girl's teacher.

I've been watching Takedown with Chris Hansen on YT recently. All of the predators are men. I'm guessing they don't catch women because it would be dangerous for a woman to enter a random house. A teacher operating in school where they are the powerful ones makes sense.

She was prosecuted under this statute, which does apply under age 18 but only for "positions of trust."

It's a little hard to see how a local kindergarten teacher would have been in a position of trust over a 17 year old (11-12th grader) who would be well past kindergarten age. It's not like this was one of her teachers at the high school or something.
I'm surprised she pled guilty.

She had just graduated from HS, and was getting ready to start LSU.... She looked 21 and I looked like I just graduated HS....... We went out about a year and a half, broke up at her DG, White Rose spring formal.
