I mentioned on here awhile back that when I was in middle school and we had "earth day" there was some guy from a recycling company who came talk to use. The school had just got a recycle bin in each class.
The guy talked about water consumption and said "we don't turn those faucets off all the way and don't stop wasting water, in 20 years there will not be enough clean water for the growing population".

My father worked for Shell for decades. He was always convinced that oil was a finite resource and that they were running out.
If they depended upon the drilling and extraction technology of his era, this would be a real possibility. But the technology for drilling and extraction has changed in ways that are revolutionary.
