It might be better to build it out of a sturdy material. The winds in those mountains can be pretty rough

First the Vatican is considered one of the most charitable organizations in the world.
Second, if you have ever walked into St. Peter’s basilica or most other churches in Rome, you’ll understand that appreciation for beauty helps point us to God.

So, the fact that, at the time when this Commandment was written, the "idols" that were forbidden happened to be the idols of pagan countries like Babylon and Assyria?
You don't think it's possible that the Commandment was written to forbid the creation of pagan idols for the purpose of worshipping them, but not a statue of Jesus Christ?
You are going to insist that there is only one possible interpretation of that Bible passage?

he meaning of “thou shall not”
The Commandment is that we shall not make statue idols of pagan, false gods from places like Babylon and Assyria, nor shall we make a statue of a Golden Calf in order to worship that idol instead of worshipping Yahweh, Lord God Almighty.
Thou shalt not carve then worship statues of pagan gods from Greece, Roman Empire, Assyria or Babylon, instead of worshipping Yahweh Lord God Almighty.
That's what it means.
I think we're all good with this. I don't think anybody in Louisiana has a Golden Calf Statue on his property that he worships as his almighty god.

the Christ is not mentioned in that passage. It seems to me that an un-hypocritical reading of it would be that worshipping any idol is to be avoided, and to instead worship the thing that the idol represents. Any idol can be seen as “true” or “false” depending on the context and thus it seems to me the better way would be to do what that passage says, or more accurately not do what it says not to do.
I don’t think there’s any danger in that do you?

This leaves us with a mandate which is, at best, unclear.
I understand the desire to worship the Lord, but would rather do it some other way.
I can appreciate the sentiment in the making of what I perceive to be a serious mistake - applaud the enthusiasm, but choose to not participate in the error.

What have I "cut and run" from??
How convenient of you to forget so soon. You RA'd me in the Baton Rouge murder rate thread for being too harsh on posters, calling them dimwits, etc. Saying you were sick and tired of me doing it.
I went back in the SAME exact thread and quoted you doing the exact same thing about posters several times, mocking them and calling them harsh names.
I called you the world's largest hypocrite and asked if you had RA'd yourself, too? You NEVER so much as responded.
Want me to post the thread excerpts here to refresh your memory?

After wading through your above childish attack posts for 3 pages, all directed at other posters and not at me, I replied to one of your posts:

Your childish name calling of other posters is out of control.

FYI, I RA'd several of your posts in this thread.
Vaya con Dios, amigo...
Then you claimed I attacked you when I posted: "Vaya con Dios, amigo... "
You obviously didn't know "Vaya con Dios, amigo... " is a Spanish saying that means, "Go with God, my friend."
That's NOT a personal attack...

Once I determine I'm arguing with a mentally challenged person I follow Mark Twain's advice, "Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
So, once again: Vaya con Dios, amigo...

Thank you for your personal opinion on what the Bible says there on that issue.
I have already expressed my own personal opinion on what the Bible means on the issue of statues, idols and worship of pagan gods. I'm pretty sure that I'm on solid ground WRT to this particular Commandment, and, any Christian that is not worshipping statues or sculptures instead of worshipping God, is probably also on solid ground WRT this Commandment.
As for your own expanded interpretation, I can see how it would be helpful, so long as you don't expand your interpretation to the extent that you oppose somebody who wants to build a statue of Jesus Christ because you say it violates a Commandment. Some people will tell us that this is exactly how they interpret this Commandment and my response to them is this: this is America and you are permitted to interpret these Bible passages in any personal manner that you see fit, just don't expect the rest of us to kow-tow to your personal interpretation.
God would not want us to fight over this issue.
