Hold the frick up! She spent the night then the girl started asking her parents questions? So the parents were okay with this? And girl was old enough to consent?
I could see her getting fired because of where she teaches but she did nothing wrong.

I don't know why people always refer to age of consent laws. For Louisiana, people always say age of consent is 17, but they don't realize that if the other person is more than 2 yrs older than the 17yr old, then it's still illegal. It's just a misdemeanor. Whether or not it should be a crime is another question.

The issue is that she was a teacher at the school the girl attended and was technically “an adult in a position of authority over a minor” or some such thing.
I don’t think she should have gone to jail, but I’m not particularly outraged considering how incredibly stupid of a decision it is to sleep with any student at a school one works at. I just don’t understand how this is such a problem for staff at schools.

No, 17 is the actual age of consent in LA. The rule about 2 years applies if the person is younger than 17.
So in Louisiana:
- 17 and 24: legal
- 16 and 17: legal (<2yrs difference)
- 16 and 19: misdemeanor (2-4yrs difference)
- 16 and 24: felony (>4yrs difference)

17 being the age of consent means that it’s legal for a 17 year old to have sex with a 100 year old in Louisiana, as long as the 100 year old isn’t their teacher or something.
