I still can't belive a woman dressed like a train conductor mixed with a dressage rider ran France's first leg of 4x400 relay...

It’s because she’s Muslim and France has secularism laws that bans the wearing of a hijab for government employees and school pupils. Because as an Olympic athlete she represents her government competing for France, those laws applied to her wearing it in competition and at the opening ceremony. So their solution was to let her wear a cap.
