I post on multiple watch, woodworking, tool, 3D printing, climbing, backpacking, etc forums, and never once have I even thought there was a need to get remotely political. Many of the ones I post on make political posts verboten... which could be part of your issue.

I'll give some examples I've seen.

On the wedding planning subreddit, numerous threads have been started about not inviting family to their wedding because they voted for Trump.

On the Baton Rouge subreddit just today, someone asked where to get their haircut as a non-blue-haired liberal.

On the various "snark" subreddits that gossip about insufferable influencers, calling someone MAGA or a zionist is completely accepted as a normal insult all will note down about someone.

Even this one is filled with freak weirdos. Yesterday, some guy asked if he was an a-hole for telling his postpartum wife she needs to check herself into inpatient rehab and leave her baby behind because.. she's been drinking 2-3 glasses of wine a night post-birth.

People were acting as if she is on the same level of a late stage alcoholic that swigs nightstand vodka throughout the night because, over the course of ~4 hours of her evening, she has a couple of glasses of wine. Ya know, like a simple discussion between spouses and some self regulation can't occur after the woman just spent 9 month sober on her own.

It's like these people have never been out into the real world before.

So true.

Even the cooking subreddits and the wedding subreddits are immediately flooding in every time someone mentions their proposed menu for a party because WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WITH ARFID? WHAT ABOUT THE VEGANS? WHAT ABOUT THESE 900 ALLERGIES?

My account is 16 years old there. I use it for hobby stuff and sports stuff. Every time I venture outside of my curated subreddit list, I actually feel pretty good about myself because I see how fricking miserable the average user is.

This is what stops me from posting on there

It's more fun to just sit back and read through the insanity.

I started when I retired a couple of years ago.

Got banned twice.

Now I know how to undermine / criticize / sneer at / deflate libs and feminists while flying just under the radar. It's amusing.

You know you've hit nerves when they start calling you names or say "you're twisting my words".

They make such EASY targets as they think they are in an echo chamber, but I'm there lurking, ready to pounce and ruin their day.

But hey, I've learned from the best: TD.

I remember one thread on the bartenders subreddit where someone I guess new to the industry was shocked to learn other bars have regulars too. They were like, "Surely not high end cocktail bars?!"

The replies were funny. "Even airport bars have regulars, bud."

If you are a conservative arguing politics on Reddit you are on borrowed time

If you are someone carefully pointing out obvious flaws in the comments of radicals on Reddit, without espousing any conservative ideals whatsoever, you are on borrowed time.

And FTR, I’ve never, in my entire Internet experience, since the dawn of the World Wide Web, seen the word Pedophile, or its other forms, used as much as the last few months on Reddit. It’s mind boggling.

Across numerous large subs, saying Trump should have been assassinated in various forms is perfectly okay.

I have been on forums there about fixing my car, other do it yourself things, my favorite pro sports teams, about my home town area, the industry, various fan sites for popular prime time shows and it is rare to see them touch upon actual current politics and if it comes up it is very light and in passing along the lines of "maybe repairing a car wouldn't be so expensive if the Democrats didn't insist on so many taxes " type stuff that mostly goes ignored.

It's also a good place to check up on an item beforee making a purchase. I wanted to know if a new cough medicine that I just learned about but nothing on the internet comes across as trustworthy so just type in "Name of Product Reddit comments" in google and you might get to see what 200 commentators say about something, good, bad, good but too expensive, etc.

Put simply on non current affairs boards, politics, parties, elections very rarely come up for converstiion in my experience.

Now what the political boards are like? I don't know, I don't go to those boards over there, many say they are liberal so take that for what it is.

Reddit could be the worst echo chamber in existence. Whereas Instagram has carefully created my algorithm, reddits it’s basically prebuilt to push anything remotely portraying trump negatively at what seems like a 50% rate. They will then actively promote and push any woke arse comment to the top of every forum. Gets old and I’m not even a fan of Trump or politics at all
