Republicans in the state called upon her to take action, her response?

quote:

“While we are not in a position to have a special session at this time, I hope in light of this new decision, the court is favorable to Alabama‚" she said in a statement, referencing ongoing litigation about the state’s voting maps, which would favor Republicans.

She sure had plenty of motivation to raise gas taxes when it suited her

Sadly most republicans are worthless. We need America first national politicians and state first people for the states.

Complete nonsense. She can call a special election anytime she wants.

Is the Gov the only person who can call a special session in Alabama?

AI results:

quote:

Yes, as of April 2026, the Governor of Alabama is the only person authorized to call the Alabama Legislature into a special session. Alabama is one of only 13 to 14 states where the power to convene a special session lies solely with the governor, rather than the legislature.

In this state, unfortunately she is the only one who can call a special session. She’s done it 4 times, Rebuild Alabama Act 2019, Prison Infastructure 2021, ARPA funds appropriations 2022 & 2023

Voting starts in less than two weeks in AL. Qualifying etc already done for the districts as is.

The fact that you thought that the legislature was going to up and redraw the maps in that time frame is on you, not the Governor.

We're voting in 3 weeks. They aren't going to redistrict this in any fashion that holds up in courts - no matter how favorable they are to conservative tilted lines or "fair" lines if you are a real homer - in 3 weeks.

Yep. Don’t really know how this is gonna work in Louisiana as mail in ballots for the current format have already been cast and sent in.
Seems like this where the Purcell Principle comes in play.

I know how I'll vote. If it takes folks three weeks to decide, that's on them.

The primary is in three weeks. We could easily make redistricting happen, she just doesn't want to.

ok - but this is from the linked article in OP

That means that Alabama’s voting maps -- and two majority-Black districts that recently sent two Black Democrats to Congress -- will remain the same until 2030.

at a minimum; THAT needs to wind up being untrue - no excuse to not fix this for 2028

The lib judges dragging their feet getting their dissent written is more to blame.

Republicans from other red states get so confused when republicans in Florida find ways to do things instead of continually making excuses for when their politicians don’t.

I know it has to be confusing seeing what the GOP in a red state is supposed to be instead of a bunch of bought and sold chamber of commerce RINOs.

It’s also why FL is exploding from a wealth and population standpoint.

Saw it with the TEA party and now again with MAGA. Actually, I saw it with Reagan but wasn't old enough to grasp it, but the pattern is the same. Who the eff are these so called Republicans? Why do they revel in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory ?

I don't think Alabama having two majority black districts is geographically ridiculous. I don't think you'd have to try hard to honestly divide lines and end up in that situation.

Frankly the old 7th district was a pretty explicit "lets lasso as many of the black people in the state as we can" and I don't think that is what representation should be like regardless of partisan politics. The interests of the majority black regions roughly Tuscaloosa/Jefferson county differ greatly than the very rural counties below them to the coastal counties. The one district really wasn't an effective way to get those people representation and that is what this shite is supposed to be about not squeezing out narrow majorities for the national party in the house.
