Yep true. I'll modify the title.
Having beginning stages of CTE at 24 is brutal. He was barely a year into the NFL.

Marshawn Kneeland had stage 1 CTE before suicide but not overall cause.

Former Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland was posthumously diagnosed with Stage 1 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). There are four stages with Stage 4 showing the most damage.
Kneeland died by suicide in November 2025 at the age of 24.
Boston University's CTE Center made the diagnosis after Kneeland's family donated his brain for research.
Kneeland's family, including his girlfriend Catalina Mancera, put out a statement:
"While this diagnosis does not change the tragedy of his passing, it provides important context about some of the struggles he may have been facing. We share this information to help people understand what NFL and other high contact sport athletes might be struggling with. Raising awareness is important to us. We continue to remember Marshawn with compassion for the person he was, rather than defining him by the final moments of his life. One Love."
The BU CTE Center made a point of saying that suicide is "complex and multifactorial" and "a post-mortem CTE diagnosis should not be considered the cause of a suicide."
According to records obtained by ESPN, there had been concerns about Kneeland's mental health as far back as 2020 when he was at Western Michigan. In one incident, he was required to turn in his firearm to police until he was cleared by a counselor.
In another, a friend called authorities with concern over Kneeland's well-being. He was found on railroad tracks, saying he hoped a train would run him over. He was hospitalized.
Texas police found Kneeland's body in the early morning of Nov. 6, 2025 after he had evaded officers during a traffic pursuit, crashed his car and fled on foot. According to a report released Friday by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a trooper saw Kneeland's car speeding down the highway, sometimes traveling more than 145 miles per hour and making "several unsafe lane changes."
The trooper ultimately lost sight of Kneeland's car. While officers searched for Kneeland,While officers searched for Kneeland, they said they received information that he had expressed "suicidal ideations."

Former Bucknell strength coach charged with hazing and involuntary manslaughter

Former Bucknell strength and conditioning coach Mark Kulbis was charged with felony aggravated hazing, among other things, after the death of a freshman football player at the university.
Kulbis was charged with felony aggravated hazing on Monday, along with misdemeanor counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and hazing, according to a statement from Pennsylvania attorney general Dave Sunday. Kulbis was arrested on Monday morning. He is due in court next on July 28.
The charges came after an incident in July 2024. Calvin "CJ" Dickey Jr. collapsed at a team workout at Bucknell that Kulbis was overseeing and died two days later. He was 18. His family told ESPN shortly after his death that he collapsed from sickle cell-related rhabdomyolysis, or rhabdo. That medical condition, according to the Mayo Clinic, can be prevented or reduced by stopping or resting during a high-intensity workout, staying hydrated and avoid getting overheated.
Kulbis, officials said, subjected Dickey and other players to 100 "up-downs" and several full-body plank drills despite warnings "from other coaches that such exercises were not appropriate or safe for use as part of training." Dickey was "visibly struggling," officials said, and Kulbis "did not summon help until Dickey passed out."

Rui goes off the board 2 years 28 mil to Clippers
That's pretty much it until Duran gets done for notable Free agents unless there's another trade. Denver still has to make a move too for salary probably too. Lebron also still has a decision to make too.
Now for 2023 draft class rookie extensions this week. Wemby obviously is chief among those at $300 mil out the Thompson twins could get interesting. Are they max players?

Trey lyles to Minnesota one year deal. Guess he'll be their 4.
Going to get a lot minutes. They're free agency is done unless Lebron wants to play for 350k lol.

Much younger than Golden State at least.
I really don't see LeBron staying in the West if he truly "wants to win a title".

The other team that screw by this is New Orleans. I don't see how Dumars can ask for 3 firsts for Trey Murphy now imo.

Brown has been in trade rumors at least the 3 years and probably longer than that. They feel Tatum is better.
After that Giannis trade didn't work and all crap about analytics this week Boston had to trade him. There was no way that bridge was going to be mended. Boston got screwed hard by Milwaukee in multiple ways. And George will not make that pill any easier to swallow.
They could've at least done Murray, Dame, the Trey Murphy trade. Anything other than this imo.

His value tanked after the Giannis deal didn't go through.
Celtics couldn't go into next season with him and every team in the league knew it.
I'm absolutely shocked they only got an old Paul George instead of myraid of other rumor trades out there ( Jamal Murray being chief among them).
Compared to that Lakers trade for Kessler this a better deal but lol. George only has a couple years left unless this is a play for LeBron somehow.

Spurs got a their 4. Will be interesting to see whether Julian or Tobias starts.
Spurs had $15 mil to spend and Tobias jumped first. I'm not sure who else has $15 mil but Rui might be SoL for a contender.

The Lakers bench at least is a little more fleshed out.
If they all stay healthy it could work out but non of these dudes are really defenders other than Kessler.

Lakers officially going to score 136 a game this season while giving up 152.
O/U on how many Tylenol JJ Reddick has taken in the last 30 minutes?

Lakers had no choice. There weren't other centers out there other than Duren.
Jazz are setup to be very good with how young they are and all these picks.
Duren has no choice but to go to back to Detroit with his tail between his legs unless those rumors about the Kings are true. He only has himself to blame really

John Collins deal is only one guaranteed year and two non guaranteed years.
Either he saw 3/51 million and just accepted it, or teams around the league are penny pinching hard thanks to the cap rules.
Might be both.

John Collins going to Detroit for 3/$51 mil. Potential spurs target is gone along with Wade.
Lakers and Detroit seem to be in a bidding war for Duren. I guess the team that does can use Kessler as a backup?
