Why doesn’t the USA win all the shooting medals and China win all of them?

Seems like that’s something America should clean house in. Does the US Olympic committee not know they can recruit baws from thousands of gun ranges across the country that don’t miss? China lets citizens use guns?

Or is the logic opposite and China wins the shooting comps because they are already accustomed to using whatever tf an “air gun” is and it’s different than shooting a real gun?

***have not seen any shooting comps at the Olympics just going off the medal counts

Chinese government focuses on a lot of these smaller sports to get medals so they have a lot of financial support to practice etc

US couldn't give a shite less about sports like this

Honestly have no idea what an air rifle even is. Figure the mechanics shouldn’t be too different from target practice for a regular pistol and rifles though. Watched highlights of the pistol contest just now and the shots I saw that won him the gold he didn’t even hit the bullseye once. Would think they’d at least be doing that. USA wasn’t even in the finals

Yep. China can't compete in the major sports like track and swimming and Volleyball, basketball, etc, (even after mass cheating) so they funnel lost of their resources and training into ping pong and shite nobody watches or has ever heard of to get medals.

Let's just say that 20K ppl aren't showing up to watch air rifle or table tennis finals....

China and Korea focus heavily on sports that do not depend significantly on height, weight, speed, and physicality on to win on the whole. That’s why badminton, ping pong, archery, and air rifles have such a heavy SE Asian influence/medal count.

I hate it because it feels like cheating just to get medal counts up as opposed to showcasing true athletic prowess, but the again equestrian events are included in the Olympics so there really is no argument for not having these sports in it.

You have a handful of colleges that have air rifle/competition shooting (Kentucky is one and have won two NCs in it). The fiancé was recruited to go but got burnt out on it after high school. I’ve been to a couple of UK’s matches. A handful of UK shooters have medaled at the Olympics in competition shooting.

There’s a lot more that goes into it than just rolling up to a target, obviously. Especially when you starting getting into higher distances. High schools will sometimes have competitive shooting through JROTC programs but there isn’t a huge program from youth up in the US like there is in China.

And of course on the Winter side you have a lot of Scandinavian countries that are competitive in winter shooting competition. But that’s definitely a lifestyle thing there too.

My guess is that air guns are less accurate than gun powder and the bullets are more easily affected by any slight mistake by the shooter. But I honestly have no idea.
