My son has a very niche job where he services mechanical time locks in bank vaults including the FED locations around the country some of which are 100+ years old.

Like to see some goofy ai bot try to take that over.

AI will be able to direct a person much less experienced than your son on how to do what he currently does.

I’ve been posting about this and almost universally the OT laughs and mocks and says “it can’t take my job” but take it from an AI developer who even blown away at the pace and improvement in AI. And if it’s TLDR listen to it. Some of you will be fine if you’re already retired and have a good nest egg to live on. But if you’re still working and NEED that income…pay attention.

It looks like a good read. I read the first part of it. I, too, have worked on an AI project that I know will result is the loss of many jobs. I decided to retire before the project completed.

But I disagree that retired people with a good nest egg will be "fine". If only retired people have money, the unemployed masses will find a way to take it from them.

Quote from the article:

For years, AI had been improving steadily. Then in 2025, new techniques for building these models unlocked a much faster pace of progress. This year, something clicked. Not like a light switch… more like the moment you realize the water has been rising around you and is now at your chest.

I am no longer needed for the actual technical work of my job. I describe what I want built, in plain English, and it just… appears. Not a rough draft I need to fix. The finished thing. I tell the AI what I want, walk away from my computer for four hours, and come back to find the work done. Done well, done better than I would have done it myself, with no corrections needed. A couple of months ago, I was going back and forth with the AI, guiding it, making edits. Now I just describe the outcome and leave.

At my job, the bosses were making me use AI to write proposals for projects. I would usually need to edit them afterward, but for the most part they did a pretty good job. That is part of what stimulated me to decide to retire. Get out while the getting is good. I figure I can enjoy my nest egg for about 5 more years before massive societal change will make life a lot more difficult.

Episodes 1 - 3 dropped on February 11th. 5 more to follow. One per week through March 18th.

Kevin Bacon is just perfect.

I wonder if they kept track of the number of cigarettes he smoked. It seems like he smokes at least one in every scene.

Is it over?

Yes, you can watch it at your leisure. No need to wait a week between episodes.

I agree with Havoc. Well worth watching.

The actress playing Sally Hemings is certainly fine.

Sam Neill sighting. This ties in nicely with the Sam Neill appreciation thread in the Movie / TV forum.
Why is the guy in the front / center wearing pajama pants?

The more you use it the more you will learn its capabilities, but user input is a big issue.

This will be the differentiator between those who will be successful in the future, and those who will struggle to survive.

Learn how to correctly communicate with it and use it as a tool.

That’s when I’ll start a company where you deal with actual English speaking people and take all of his business.

That is already happening in the "customer experience" space.

I worked on a project last year to implement Amazon Connect for a contact center. The AI bot you speak to when you call can speak to you in any accent. It can be customized to your preference if you are a regular caller. But it is a bot, not a human. And you cannot tell the difference.

Louisiana leads nation in population loss for second consecutive year.

I saw a different, but similar, report a few weeks ago that said Louisiana was the only red state in the top 10 of states who lost population over the period July 2024 - June 2025.

The other 9 were blue.

Muslims won't like this.

I'd like to see Alabama's list of convicted child rapists.

I bet the number of Muslims is minimal compared to the number of teachers, Catholic priests, Protestant youth ministers and dirty old man grandpas who couldn't keep their hands of their own grandchildren.

Child rape is now punishable by death in Alabama under newly signed law

But what if the teacher is a hot 25 year-old blond gal?

This will probably turned out to be like all other missing/kidnapped scenarios, despite intense searching since Feb 1, they will find her body like less than a mile from her house.

Some random dude out hiking in the desert will come across it.

There is something about westerns and railway stations that I find absolutely mesmerizing.

You might be thinking of 3:10 to Yuma.

There was no railroad or railway station involved in The Last Stop in Yuma County. The whole thing takes place in and around a gas station / diner in Yuma County, except for a few scenes out on the road and at the sheriff's station.

It takes place in the mid 1970s and is considered to be a "neo-western".

Fox News is reporting that the Sheriff is blocking the FBI from accessing critical evidence in the case.

"The sheriff is involved!" - Conspiracy Theorists
Could not find another thread on this. It came out in summer of 2023, but I just now watched it. Available on Paramount+

Not any big-name actors. Has a very Tarantino feel to it.

It involves a bank robbery and a bunch of people (including the robbers) holed up in a remote diner in the desert waiting for a fuel truck to arrive and refill the gas pumps.

Getting conflicting reports, some say some huge anti cartel operations was going on, others say it was a party balloon.

Do you think if it was actually a party balloon that triggered all this, the government would ever officially admit to it?

NO. Not at all. Epstein is not going to lower the cost of my everyday living.

After mid-terms... sure, go balls to the wall with Epstein. We have a mid-term to win and Epstein is not going to win us a mid-term.

@MoarKilometers was not referring to the Epstein case.
