My issue has always been with the scoring. Its absolutely maddening. I would 2nd the MMA idea.

Roy Jones Jr 1988 snub in Seoul still chaps my arse

quote:

In what may be the worst decision in boxing history, Roy Jones (left) was denied a gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in South Korea.  Jones out punched Park Si-Hun of South Korea 86-32, and at times it appeared that the fight would be stopped because Jones was hurting Park badly.  Directly after the fight a South Korea official was seen arguing with the judges, and the rumors were that he was telling the judges how to vote.  Moments later the decision was announced, and Park won the fight when the five judges voted 3-2 to give the fight to the hometown athlete.  Park immediately apologized to Jones, and he invited Jones to the gold medal stand when the anthems were being played.

The other problem NBC has is giving spoilers before the primetime broadcast.
I rarely see NBC show any boxing during their primetime broadcast unless it is a very short highlight package.

Top billing back in the 80s

BUT! We have skateboarding now! AND break dancing (I thought that died in the 90s....can we get disco dancing in 4 years?)

Oh, and we also have surfing but it is almost on the other side of the world from where the Olympics actually are.

And some 3 on 3 pick-up basketball.

USA has few qualifiers and don't really have any medal hopefuls - we might snag a single bronze. NBC slants their coverage towards events we do well in.

It's a shame because the US has a great Olympic tradition in boxing. But other countries have passed us by and we just don't seem to care.

Also the whole men beating up on women scandal doesn't fit their political narrative in an election year. Think what you want about the tranny nonsense that somehow permeated into our political discourse, but most rational people will draw the line somewhere outside of a violent combat sport where women are forced to take a beating from someone with an XY chromosome.
