A top 125 player who was buried on the depth chart at Cincinnati is not generally a top 30 portal recruit but okay

He wasn't buried on the depth chart.. He was 1st team freshman al conference. He played the same amount of minutes per game as Nwoko and Robert miller this year, who i wouldnt say were buried on the depth chart.

I’ve given Wade all of the credit regarding his ability to find unheralded talent what’s your point

Oh stop with the hyperbole. Eason was completely under the radar and a huge credit to Wade’s attention to detail.

Edit: it’s hard to know in retrospect how he was viewed nationally as the transfer portal rankings weren’t as developed. It looks like at the time, it least on here he was known as a great rebounder and defensive player with length and athleticism. Good steal and block numbers in limited minutes. 1st team all freshman.

6.9 PPg doesn’t scream can really score…especially in that league. Hope he does well being 23 playing versus 18-20yrs olds but be realistic on the expectations

Context matters, 7ppg in 14 minutes playing in the 2nd best league in the world only behind the NBA.

He was a freshmen coming off the bench for a Cincinnati team that basically had a midseason mutiny against their coach. Eason was part of probably the first mass exodus to the transfer portal for a roster. Because of that UC team's struggles, he wasn't exactly a household name. Even Wade at the time said he had not really known much about Eason. However, Wade had a guy who ran analytics on players in the portal/potential transfers and despite modest "raw" numbers, the deeper analytic data showed a player with data closer to potential an All SEC level player. Wade said at that point he started to try to figure out if he had any connections with Eason that he could utilize to recruit him. As luck would have it, Wade learned Eason had lived in CA for a bit with incoming LSU freshmen, Bradley Ezewiro.

That is how LSU landed Eason. An evaluation beyond the surface level combined with a previously unknown connection between Eason and LSU.

I don’t watch much euroleague, but it seems the best players are mostly domestic ex G-leagues / college players

Guys that were pretty good in college, and decided early on to make a career out of it in Europe instead of chancing the NBA/G-League do make up a lot of the Americans. You also have a good number of NBA draft and stash players probably 50/50 where the NBA team and the player know they will never come over and play for the team that drafted them. Guys like Jabrari Parker, Kendrick Nunn, Mike James, also play.

Draft & stash is a little less prominent than what it used to be. The best talent comes over much faster now.

No doubt. G-League probably has more talented basketball players by and large than most Euroleague clubs. Then the two-way guys and drafted players have more potential. But on average would take a Euroleage team 9/10 games if they were matched up in head to head competition against any G-League team.
