I can’t believe a starting backcourt of AI and Marbury wasn’t great

Dan & Dave

First thing I thought of...

Also Debi Thomas barely holding on to bronze instead of duking it out with Katrina Witt in the Battle of the Carmen's because she gave up on her free skate program after a couple of early bobbles.

He finally got a gold in 1992, but Dan Jansen went into both the '88 and '92 games as the favorite in both 500 and 1,000 meter in long track speed skating and not medaling in either. 88 though he was racing just after his sister died and he fell in both events.

He kind of gets a pass for that. Just you mentioning him brings to mind the moment they showed where he crashed out and just had his head buried in his hands hours after she died. It was gutwrenching. Thankfully for him he was young enough to take advantage of when they added an extra Winter Olympic Games in '94 so the games would be staggered.

Only one of the Dans did anything worth a shite, if I recall correctly.

The entire sport of short track speed skating is overhyped.

They were in those Reebok commercials leading up to the Olympics then only one made the Olympics. Dave made the Olympics and Dan didn't. The hype was crazy and it seemed like they were everywhere.

Also, Apolo Ohno won 8 medals. 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze. I wouldn't call him a flop

It’s chaotic as frick which makes for a fun, amusing watch imo. Especially the sprints.

Nancy Kerrigan by far. The media hype from the Tonya stuff made it seem like they were the best two skaters in the world even though Baiul, who ended up winning the gold, was the reigning world champion.

I would agree with you if she wasn't clubbed in the knee shortly before it. Like Jansen, she gets a pass.

Another Olympian that comes to mind is the Karoli trained gymnast (Dominique Mochianu sp?) who was hyped for the All Around but ended up being overshadowed by Strung in Atlanta.

Wasn't Shawn Johnston supposed to win the medal Liukin won?

The 2004 Mens Basketball Team won the bronze.

I refuse to call any Team "The Dream Team" because there was only one.

She was the favorite, but Liukin got injured the year before and cleaned up the events she wasn't as good at and won it. I wouldn't say it was a big upset because they both were really good.

Not exactly. Dan didn't qualify for Barcelona, but won gold 4 years later. Dave I believe got silver or bronze in Barcelona.
