It does not benefit you in any way in this system to play any hard out of conference games, especially to start the season.

There's no argument to be had, he put it plain and simple, you're only rewarded if you get through the rest of your schedule in decent shape.

Otherwise there's nothing there but a harder schedule.

How many snippets of the PMT interview will get its own thread?

Why not just continue to conversate within the PMT Interview thread?

Try telling that to many on here and a certain bald radio host

Its screaming into the wind

The committee has told you again and again and again: Don't do it. Record is all that matters

As a fan I would MUCH rather see LSU open with Clemson than South Carolina St. because that is a far more compelling and entertaining matchup. However, from competitive advantage standpoint the risk of loss is FAR greater than the benefit of a win. For example, if Texas opens with Ohio last year instead of @ Ohio St they likely reach the CFP (assuming the rest of the seasons results played out exactly as they did)

As a fan I want them in compelling matchups in the playoffs, so I don't give a frick about compelling matchups in week 1

If Texas opens the season with OhioU instead of Ohio St last year, they’re in the playoffs.

I could not more strongly disagree.

Every contender you defeat is a contender you knock out. Iron sharpens iron.

I have stated this as nauseum but ill say it again: Both opinions CAN coexist.

I agree that playing hard OOC games isnt worth it however i am more excited for a week one game against Clemson and getting the spotlight than i would be if we opened up with ULL or some shite team like that.

But to Lane's point, even if you win the big OOC games, there's still a hidden cost. The mental, emotional and physical toll of playing extra competitive games will rear its ugly head later in the season vs. teams that had multiple games where their starters rested in the 3rd/4th quarters.

If in a playoff game one team's starting RB has 300 carries coming into the playoffs, and the other team's starter has 200 carries coming in, then that can definitely impact performance.

Lane just made a great argument why the expanded playoff is going to kill the regular season. There will be no motivation to schedule good OOC and less motivation to win big conference games. All that will matter is getting enough wins to be sharp for the playoffs.

I am not arguing that Lane is wrong to take this approach. You have to devise a plan that fits your situation. I am just arguing that the days of do or die games from September through November are dwindling.

Chrch the last 3 big 10 national champs. 9 cupcakes for their ooc schedule. Indiana and Penn state do it again this year.

I’m not Lane Kiffin fanboy, but it is refreshing to hear a coach talk about things like seasonal play counts and how that factors into the late season. Discussing those things that average Joe doesn’t think about inspires a lot of confidence.

The lore of the SEC HC group chat is always interesting to hear about. I just can’t imagine Kelly in them

Yup, in 2019 and 2011 LSU scheduled tough OOC games.
