Stolen Checks via USPS

Is anyone one else having trouble getting company checks stolen through USPS. Shreveport has been absolutely terrible with this lately. At this point I think it’s the post office. Checks being washed with the payee changed, sometimes it’s a completely different signature. We’ve taken precautions on the business, but now someone’s personal check has been stolen. Cops & Sheriffs involved, but are basically told there is nothing they can do. The perps are out of Atlanta, so they lack jurisdiction. USPS is aware but doesn’t have the resources to investigate. FBI has been alerted in our area. Still feels like nothing can be done. I guess checks are becoming a thing of the past. It’s frustrating that they keep getting away with this with no punishment. No telling how much they have stolen. Anyone else dealing with this?

It's pretty easy for them to catch the stupid criminals doing this. Once it gets bad enough, the feds will put a bait envelope where they know it'll get stolen and pounce when it's taken. Risking federal charges for some petty cash is braindead.

They’re pretty brazen. In our business area, they’ve probably made off with at least 100k with all the businesses and doctors offices around. Could be the low end, that’s just from the amounts I have personally heard from people.

My wife sent my kid to school with a check for a holiday lunch. Two weeks later it was cashed for $1500 for someone’s rent….with the apartment number in the memo. Law enforcement DGAF.

My fiancée had a tax remittance check stolen out of the mail a while back. Bank picked up the fraud but her account got locked up for a few days until everything was cleared up. I have greatly curtailed my use of checks, the few times I do write them it's never going to be mailed either. Also, I use these pens:
Gave some to my fiancée, her mother, and my mother as they all still write personal checks at times.

I know Caddo has a lot of shite going on but you think that amount of money stolen would get someone’s attention. Shrug it off and say it’s the Feds problem is basically what we were told.

People who don’t want to have their banking info sitting in company databases waiting to be stolen…that;s who.

I didn't understand the 16 downvotes because I was thinking people who still get their paycheck in the mail. But I am still surprised that 16 people downvoted this.
I trust the USPS less than electronic payments. First, personal checks have a lot of your information on it. But I understand because my utility bill is mailed in because they charge $7 to pay electronically,

Fidelity told me in order to get funds out of my 403B with my former employer (through Lincoln Financial) and into my current account, I'd have to have Lincoln mail me a check and then mail that check to them.
This makes me feel good about the process

Our company provides services to other businesses (both large and small) all over the country. We process about 150 checks each week. So the rumors of the demise of checks being mailed are quite exaggerated.
