Ok. So I know the vehicle has to be like 20 years old to import right? But what's stopping me from buying and registering one IN Mexico and driving it across the border?
I see Mexico plates all the time here.

I also looked it up, an American CAN register a vehicle there.

You figure it out, lemme know... that's on my wishlist.

I've seen ONE that was definitely not 20yrs old in my area. I was very jelly.

Go watch videos where US customs smashes incorrectly imported vehicles then get back to us. For a while they rounded up Land Rover Defenders across the US and impounded them, only halted by court actions which took a long time to play out. Back 10 years ago or so, Customs made a big deal of destroying some Defenders on video to deter anyone else trying to get around the 25 year rule. There have been other cars with big social media enthusiast presence like Nissan Skylines that were targeted.

Figure out what you want, know the rules, and get a good importer with a known reputation for using the right ports of entry and doing paperwork correctly on whatever vehicle you want.

This. As long as you are fine throwing away whatever you buy the truck for plus some fines you can do it.

It ain't worth it for a Hilux. Just import an older one if you want it for a classic.

Foreign cars can be driven a limited amount of time in the US. When you eventually get stopped, you are going to have a laundry list of fines, etc., to deal with.

Do it. These fools keep saying US customs will smash it. I also see your location is my Mom’s house. I can tell you I’ve never seen US customs at my mom’s house. You’ll be fine.

Pretty sure you can’t just register a vehicle in a country without having an address and other things. Also good luck getting insurance. Once you got caught it would be a colossal and expensive pain in the arse that might end up in your vehicle getting confiscated.

Wasn't this a California thing? I think you can bring in a gray market car under a show car status but it is really limited on driven miles and such. Like under 5k and it may only be for 6 months then it has to leave the country. Kind a like a visa.

On second thought just wait till the next D president administration and just drive it in. Probably keep the PKM on it also.
