Two weeks later it was cashed for $1500 for someone’s rent….with the apartment number in the memo. Law enforcement DGAF.
How on earth could law enforcement not care about this? Easy arrest.
Also, what ended up happening? Did the bank eat the fraudulent charge?

If you must write checks there is a pen you can buy so they cant whitewash it.
Yes its called whitewashing... its racist.

A crime ring spread across Shreveport and Atlanta... hmmmmm... the Genovese family perhaps?

I've been told that you can get a pen that can not be washed and changed. It can be purchased at a bank.

Yes, going back a few years. We only do wire transfers now.
ETA: This is in the Houston area.

Most of these checks are stolen by postal employees/contractors/people breaking into mail boxes, so this a federal issue, not state or local. Federal Law enforcement is lazy and only wants to only investigate crimes involving huge money amounts.
It is an epidemic, in Jxn, MS, but everyone has learned not to mail checks.

Bank reversed it with a police report. School principal thanked us for bringing it to her attention.
Edit if anyone lives at renaissance apartments, could you knock on 1511 to ask what happened?

The same banking info that’s on your check? lol
Yes, but their less chance of a thief getting your information from stumbling onto your check, than a hacker getting behind a firewall and stealing thousands of of individuals information from a database at one time.

I can't help with the investigation side, but I am sure it does take a lot of resources.
It is common today, this is what I wrote in the thread last month regarding protecting yourself:
If you are concerned about check washing, write them with a Uni-ball 207 gel pen with black ink.
The next step is using a fountain pen with De Atramentis document ink. That is the most secure ink I am aware of, and I have used it daily for documents and the rare checks I write.

Our company sends hundreds of vendor payments in the form of a check through the mail every week wtf are you talking about? And yes OP we have had an uptick in slow as frick delivery and stolen checks. Our checks are taking weeks sometimes to go within a few hours of our office

Happened to me in Baton Rouge. Cops identified the Old Hammond substation as the problem. Somebody in the station copped the checks, went to the "washer" . Got over 13k on that one. Bank made it good.

Is anyone one else having trouble getting company checks stolen through USPS. Shreveport has been absolutely terrible with this lately. At this point I think it’s the post office. Checks being washed with the payee changed, sometimes it’s a completely different signature.
Our company has. We're working on moving to ACH & EFT as much as possible as a result.

The culcha of theft started by the democrats is everywhere. At my local WallyMart they're putting stuff under lock and key - mostly electronic stuff (inkjet cartridges, headphones). They're adding other stuff under lock and key every week it seems. I noticed toothpaste is the next preferred item.
I figure condoms are next.
The really scary part about all this? These people vote.
Sigh.
