What’s with all the Asian countries dominating so far?

Short stature means the bar has to move less, making it easier to perform better. It’s why Lafayette has so many stud power lifters.

I think many of those nations have had some success in the years at the smaller weight classes. And they are likely engaging in some state sponsored designer PED programs. That's how it is at that level.

I thought that Romanian girl was going to take gold after the Chinese lifter missed on an attempt, but she came back to get it later, very solid. Can't remember the weight class.

Karlos Nassar just dominated the 89KG group.

Looking forward to see what Lasha does tomorrow in the super heavies.

Precisely why China didn’t send Li Dayin. Gambled with Zhiyong at 73kg but he bombed out on the C&J

why didn’t china send the girl who set all the records in Reeves’s weight class?

Nice opening C&J by Reeves. THink that almost clinches gold unless the Ecuadorian adds a bunch of weight.

edit: Gold medal for Olivia Reeves from USA

I guess this is saying each country can only send 3 men and 3 women total for the olympics?

quote:

Weightlifters from China typically dominate the sport, but due to changes in the qualification process --- each country was allowed to send only three women and three men to Paris 2024, one for each weight class. The number of weight classes was also reduced from 14 to 10.

China's Liao Guifang, 2023 World Champion and weightlifting total world record holder (273kg), would have been Reeve's biggest threat to gold but she wasn't selected to join the team.

Because she’s not a sure thing against Reeves. They can only send 3 women. The ones they sent have better shots at getting gold

Shi Zhiyong bombing out in 73kg is more devastating now that I realize China could only send 3 men total.

He had a 10 kilo lead going into the C&J. He had hit 199 in prior comps. They gambled he could make 191 and force Rizki to make 202 to win. But Shi hasn’t been the same since injuries. He’s got a strong clean, but the squat jerk is the problem. So risky

Love watching all the lifting, but supers are just another level of strength. Any idea what time they start live? Station?

Feels like I always miss them live.

I just finished watching the 61 kg for men’s

Hampton Morris for the US came so close to getting the record. If his snatch gets higher he’ll be a world champ and Olympic gold

Incredible lifting, but you can't convince me that there isn't massive state sponsored doping going on in China with weightlifting
