I’ve been a teacher for the last 15 years and I’ve had a first row seat to the collapse of kids ability to socialize with each other and have fun. A stat came out that 40% of high school graduates this year have never tried alcohol. Which isn’t a sign that high school kids are being more careful, it’s a sign that high school kids don’t know how to have fun and socialize.

Anyway, I think the generation below them is going to be OK. I see kids under 12 outside everywhere, riding those electric bikes and trying to kill themselves, fishing, running around unsupervised, just being kids. Likewise, the younger kids are so much more social in school now, so many more obnoxious boys and gossip girls who get in trouble because all they wanna do is have fun with their friends. In my mind, these are great qualities and a hopeful sign that maybe the kids are going to be all right.

My son is 8... first day of summer break and he has 3 elementary aged neighborhood friends over playing. Riding scooters, jumping on the trampoline, getting off their devices. It's good to see.

Kids need to do things that look like they're "trying to kill themselves" within reason of course. Riding bikes too fast, climbing trees, and exploring unsupervised teaches them risk assessment, resilience, and problem-solving.

After a decade of hyper-polished, screen-mediated childhoods, the chaotic, loud, risk-taking, outdoor-loving kid is making a transitional and slow comeback.

I think kids that had some of their formative years during COVID have to be stunted socially

plenty of parents are questioning this decision nowadays - more than 5-10 years ago

Also, I find a lot more parents are limiting screen time

Good Lord Louisiana is so trashy thinking this is a bad thing. You do realize when you get out of the southeast, life doesn’t center around getting drunk don’t you?

I commend the younger generation for not drinking near as much. I see more kids in my neighborhood out playing more than ever.

That’s a nationwide statistic pointing out drinking is down nationwide you idiot.

And yes, I do think high school kids drinking less is a bad thing not a good thing, not because I think high school kids should all be getting drunk but because I think high school kids should be spending time together having fun
