LSU played in the game. No fanbase travels like LSU.

What fan base will travel for a single elimination tournament?

You’ll get Auburn and Bama, and then the LSU fans that live nearby.

LSU vs an Alabama team topping attendance charts checks out. LSU travels well and its close enough for plenty of AU/UA folks to make it. A little surprising in a year where we suck but maybe folks redirected their omaha budgets to hoover instead. I'd imagine the weekend games' attendance will pick up though

I never understood why anybody but locals or retired people showed up at a largely meaningless conference tournament to begin with

I'm not using hard earned money or vacation to see a meaningless tournament right before the NCAA tournament starts especially if I thought I was gonna be making an expensive trip to Omaha a few leaks later

it’s typically an entertaining tournament.

it’s a much shorter drive.
tournament lasts only half as long as the CWS.

so it’s actually a lot easier and cheaper to attend than Omaha is.

There is a big Mississippi State Alumni in B'ham as well. So you would have to have LSU, Auburn, State, and Bama for good crowds. Vandy is about 2.5 hours away and so is Georgia.

Between Auburn fans that can drive in and there’s a lot of lsu fans in Mississippi and Birmingham plus the usual suspects that travel.

I’m an lsu fan/alum who lives within 10 min of Hoover met

Only fans who enjoy watching other teams will travel to Hoover with the new rules

It’s different than before but it’s a good time

And which LSU fan actually thought that was gonna happen this year?

LSU travels well. It’s in the same state as AU and bama. It’s reportedly a very fun tournament and a great atmosphere. If not for my kids school schedule we would have been there most likely.
