According to Dinich, the goal is to help separate teams in the same league with similar records based on the quality of the teams they play in the league. This could be particularly helpful for teams who don’t play each other during the regular season but could be fighting for playoff spots.
It will also help better compare teams across leagues with similar records, based on how tough their conference opponents were during the season. Dinich also reported that it won’t trump quality wins, strength of schedule, record strength and what the committee sees on film as measurables for playoff and top 25 selection.
