We may be getting closer to doing away with our twice a year changing of the clocks

President Donald Trump is championing the prospect of putting the kibosh on twice-annual clock changes by making daylight saving time permanent.
A bill to make daylight saving time permanent has been folded into a larger measure that the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced in a 48-1 vote on Thursday.
"Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent! This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks. Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive!" Trump wrote in a Thursday Truth Social post.
quote:
"It’s time that people can stop worrying about the ‘Clock,’ not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production. It will also be a very nice WIN for the Republican Party. Take it! We are going with the far more popular alternative, Saving Daylight, which gives you a longer, brighter Day — And who can be against that — This is an easy one!" the president declared.
Rep. Vern Buchanan's, R-Fla., office noted in a Thursday press release that "The Sunshine Protection Act was included as a provision within an Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute (AINS) to the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act, which was marked up and sent to the House floor by the House Energy and Commerce Committee today."

I somewhat see it as a gesture of respect for the WWII vets.

Calling Trumps bluff…
Seems to be the thing to do and not believe a word he says based on experience over the last few years.

Okay so Central Time will always be -5:00 GMT and Eastern -4:00 GMT. Mountain will be -6:00 GMT, and Pacific will be -7:00 GMT year round.
I guess Arizona except in certain Indian Reservations which observe DST will still be the odd one with it being Mountain Standard year round at -7:00 GMT.
US should just make it a state issue and allow states to choose if they want to observe DST Year Round, Part of the Year DST, or No DST at all.

I like the idea, but I was surprised in the polling so many wanted to keep it and over 40% wanted to keep standard time if we went to one.

Um

The Navajo Nation observes Daylight Saving Time to maintain a consistent schedule across its massive reservation, which stretches into Utah and New Mexico. By aligning with these neighboring states, the tribe ensures unified business hours and services across its territory, despite the rest of Arizona (and the landlocked Hopi Reservation) remaining on standard time year-round.

I don’t even care which one we go to, so long as we pick ONE.

some locations benefit from ST vs DT.
Folks down here seemingly appreciate DT being permanent, but in Alaska ST is infinitely better.

We already have 7 am sunrise in December which sucks out loud. If this goes through it'll be 8 am.

I prefer standard time. Still being daylight at 9 pm in the southern part of the US feels very unnatural, and makes getting to bed at a decent time and getting a good night's sleep even harder for a society that already runs sleep deprived on average.
And it's the same amount of daylight either way. If you want to enjoy more sunshine just get your lazy @ss up earlier

Well in Alaska, you might only have a few months in the year where daylight hours are normal for like 4 months out the year. The rest of the year is either too daylight is too long or night is too long.
Alaska observes DST and is looking to make it permanent.

The states can choose year-round standard time (what’s observed in winter) or switch between standard (winter) and daylight (summer), but they can’t choose year-round daylight.
Arizona is on year-round Mountain Standard Time, which aligns it with Pacific Daylight Time in summer but the rest of the Mountain Time Zone in winter.

They don't. They can only choose to observe DST or Not. Year Round DST is not an option.
If we go with Year round DST, how about a new time zone between Eastern and Central a half hour off. This is pretty common in some areas of the world. Some areas are even off by 15 minutes. It is not like GPS and cellular phone clocks cannot adjust for this variation in time.
It can't be worse than places like China that have one unified time zone.
