Yeah, but Bradley wanted to play a role for his club team like he would with the USMNT. He gets that at TFC and never would have at Roma.

The step-down in talent is massive, but I understand why he did it. He gets a big raise, he gets to play closer to his family, and he plays every game. I think it was probably too early in his career to do it though, as he probably could have gotten this offer when he was 30, but there isn't any shame in it.

I just said that to prevent this thread from turning into ranking the top clubs in the world. I think I have them at like 10, but I want to avoid the digression.

If he's that good, let's hope the whole world is saying it after this summer.

Because of his soccer IQ, work ethic, and tenacity, I think could play almost anywhere. I just wouldn't include Real, Barca, or Man U (most years) in that list.

He could be the third or fourth CM at a true superclub, but I would rather him get minutes at an elite or near elite club if possible. Filling in for Strootman would have been nearly ideal, but hindsight is 20-20 and you cannot predict injuries.

Roma was an absolutely perfect situation if they did not already have a full world class midfield without Bradley.

I really hope he did it to make sure it was first team football before the WC. Bc dominating the MLS isn't going to help his game get better. But he is getting paid a lot more so it would make him going back to Europe a little expensive. I wish he would have waited until his early 30's to play in the MLS. He could have been picked up by an German or English club for sure.

That's probably pushing it, and he's demonstrated in the past that he won't tolerate sitting on the bench.

The TFC move was great for him personally and acceptable for him professionally. He's 26. It's not like his story will be a case of "what could have been." He was probably going to have to take a slight step down to get what he wanted, anyway.

Not much difference in starting midfield competition between Barca, Real and Roma with De Rossi, Pjanic and Strootman.

The difference is that he would have gotten minutes as depth at Roma.

The Italian journo's said Nainggolan forced him out. You didn't even mention him. He was way back on the depth chart, even though he had some great performances at Roma.

De Rossi needs to move to CB, he plays great back there and Bradley could have stayed and filled his DM role. He won't swallow his pride though. I've heard people say Totti would have a ballon d'or if he would have moved back and been a distributor.

Concerning Naingollan, I was mainly just answering the poster who said Bradley couldn't even start in Roma's midfield. So, I just mentioned Roma's starting midfield, which is as good as any in Europe.

But yeah, Naingollan's purchase certainly moved Bradley to 5th in the pecking order and that likely made his move an easier decision (though I feel like he would have moved this summer regardless -- both for him starting and his huge salary but also that Toronto paid Roma much more than a comparable replacement would cost).

I disagree about De Rossi. He's still in contention to be considered the best pure DM in the game.

De Rossi is perfect for what Rudi Garcia's 4-3-3 where he drops deep in the center of a back three with the CBs splitting wide and runs the show in possession.

It's not that different from Juve with Bonucci when Pirlo doesn't play but De Rossi is much more accomplished in that role (no slight on Bonucci who can be an excellent passer though often a bit erratic). The difference is Roma in possession is more of a 3-4-3.

That is where De Rossi wants to play but I think it's also where he's best.

I really like Bradley but Roma with Benatia -- De Rossi - Castan behind Pjanic -- Strootman is whole hell of a lot better than any lineup with Bradley as this year's results when all were healthy attests.

His last two seasons kind of supports that. His "renaissance" has "coincided" with him dropping much, much deeper in possession and spraying passes ala Pirlo.
