I know it’s not good enough but it seems the young guys can really hit. I mean we are scoring 8+ runs often. Just fix the pitching and we are back in it next year.

You act like Jay can’t just go get 10 pitchers in the portal. Sure maybe he misses again but maybe not. It’s not 2015 where we have to wait 2-3 recruiting cycles to recruit and develop pitchers.

Fair. But we will have a new infield next year other than Braun.

And Milam was absolutely elite. No guarantees we’ll be any better in the field.

Imagine how bad it would have been without Milam.

The baseball silver lining for me is that 2027 can't be worse than this year. (hopefully)

Jay’s a great coach, everyone agrees. His strength is hitting. Hopefully he learned his lesson and will allow himself to coach players for 2-3 years and see them explode like Jake Brown did.

Why allow a lesser coach to do the job 2-3 years and only get 6-9 months to use your strength, as a hitting coach. Often changing things in their swing which take a month or two to click, sometimes more.

lol...are you reading this board? This is definitely not something everyone agrees with (not my opinion, just stating the facts).

I’ll agree w/ Braun and Serna. But Ruckert and Patrick are still TBD.

It's his preference and we try it, but some guys just don't want to wait around. See Ryan.

Then you have your Arrambide's, Frey's, and Brown's, that stick around and tear the cover off the ball. Normally, the key is early playing time.

Luckily, our young talent actually played this year, and produced very well, so I don't imagine any of Braun/Serna/Ruckert leave. You never know with a guy like Patrick, who I'm sure could be promised the moon from a lesser program.

Regardless, I'm not sure there's a team in the conference that had a freshman duo as impressive as Braun/Serna. Those are bats that can carry an offense. Bide is obviously one of the best bats in the SEC. Ruckert had a ton of loud contact and I think makes a big jump next year. Patrick I think needs some swing adjustment, but has the physical tools.

You've got a very good nucleus of offensive talent, that you now need to surround with mostly hit tool and defense/speed guys, IMO. Doing some natural attrition estimates, the roster is:

C. Bide/Serna
1B. Braun/Serna
2B. TR/FR
SS. Ruckert
3B. TR/FR/Pearson/Harden
LF. TR/FR/Patrick/Harden
CF. TR/FR/Patrick/Harden
RF. TR/FR/Patrick/Harden

Bring in one corner power bat, defense first MIF who can hit ~.280 with 7-8 HR (kind of a big ask there, I know), left handed speed in the OF, and a defense first catcher who can either get on base at a relatively acceptable clip, or be a boom/bust guy with power.

Maybe. I see Ruckert at 2B and what if Jay leaves Pearson at 3B? Then 3/4 of the infield comes back. It's not what i would do but you never know with Jay. I mean he kept trotting Reaves out in LF when Stanny was hurt so there's that

There would only be two reasons Pearson would be starting at third next year. A newcomer (either portal or freshman) didn’t emerge. Or Pearson radically improved.

He’s a part time player whose DH opportunities will be absorbed by whoever isn’t catching. He should work on his fielding at 1st in case there are platoon opportunities there with Braun being able to play in the OF.

Oh i get what you saying that's why i said "What if".

Yes Pearson need to either play 1B or DH or get a whole lot better at 3B which i still dont think will help him get playing time at 3B.

The biggest silver lining for me is the amount of $ I will save not going to Omaha.

Braun might not be infield. We’ll have to see what’s in the portal, and who we can get out of it. The flight risk might be guys like patrick and ruckert. Who may be able to go somewhere else and play immediately if we bring in portal guys to fill positions they play. I mean, Jay is pretty much obligated to bring in 2 middle infielders from the portal right?

Can some of the fielding issues connect with the bad pitching? Errors due to so many on bases due to walks. Errors due to hard hit balls to fielders.

I know, there shouldn't be that many errors regardless of the pitching. But I have a feeling there wouldn't have been as many errors without all the bad pitching.
