You’re correct to be skeptical that the amendment would work as advertised…

How many hours per year do they work
Way more than most people realize. They may be at the school 8 hours a day but with lesson planning, grading test/assignments, and after school events it adds up. Now they have development days several days in the summer. Just dealing with the kids and shitty parents alone they deserve hazard pay.

The issue is they generally don’t do what they are tasked to do - educate kids. In many places they are political hacks trying to turn children into political beings, not educated adults. Pushing bad ideas on gender, oppression, socialism/marxism (these listed may all be redundant).
If they did do a good job, perhaps they would be paid more.
And as bad as many teachers are, administrators and government officials who won’t enforce discipline in school and who let bad teachers continue to “teach” are the bigger issue.

quote:within five years the whole educational system from primary to advanced degrees can be changed because of AI learning. One teacher or instructor will be able to oversee perhaps 100 students with AI assistance maybe more. Students won’t have to attend daycare there will be no need for administrative staff, nor even facilities. Think of how much money that would save and then think of how much better educated and better minds our children would have.
There is also a shortage of certified teachers in every district.
This can definitely happen and will be infinitely better than what’s going on now where we are ruining people instead of preparing them for life.
Let’s just see if it’s allowed to happen because it will of course be a big upheaval to the system.

They work half a year and frick off for the rest. They don't work hard, they hardly work.

Private schools yes. Average base pay is $50,000

Retirement and their explosive benefits are Whats killing budgets. I don’t want to hear that they don’t make any money. Most Americans never get these types of benefits especially after working only 25 years

Teachers have tenure, every holiday off, sabbaticals, and all summer off.

This is what I was told by a teacher of 20 plus years. Sounds good at first but they will deal from their retirement funds, imo teachers are not paid nearly enough for the crap they put up with.

frick them judges. Giving teachers an $80 raise per check and letting the legislature blow interest bearing funds is a bad deal. It's like Jeff Landry doesn't understand basic math. Chode.

Do you have any idea how many hours a teacher puts in during the school year, how many times they volunteer for various activities; like graduation etc that they are not paid;

I work nearly 3,000 hours a year plus unpaid travel time.
They tried to get me to teach.
I refuse to be part of or under their leftist bullshite.
You know why they get the bottom of the barrel college graduates?
It's what they deserve.

This should tell you all you need to know about how "underpaid" teachers are.
How so? Retirement fund is a different matter

Get rid of critical race theory, whole teachers, accountable, and clean up the public school system. The taxpayers would then be glad to help the teachers. I know there is a lot of great teachers. My daughter-in-law is one of them. But she is in the barrel, that the one bad Apple contaminate.

Yep.
Looking at most people on these boards, it seems we need more teachers and we need them badly.

We pay enough in taxes. I’m not opposed to paying teachers more but take it from somewhere else. We don’t need to be taxed any more than we already are now.

You are exactly right. The raise was the bait. Retirement funds were going to be smaller. All of these amendments were terrible

Do you have any idea how many hours an EMT works throughout the year? No summers off, working through holidays, and make $20,000 less than a teacher.
