Very decent Netflix film. People here are downvoting b/c it’s not The Lord of the Rings caliber.

Congrats. You may need to turn your brain “on” for this film though.

Nolan is literally a gem in today’s poop-shoot of filmmaking. I’ll take my chances of this film and story being great over typical bs being made recently.

Closing the high school is necessary due to lower student body at the school and an abundance of schools on the east side of the Lafayette area.

People on this board sound like a baby chihuahua; barking and complaining about anything.
Chris Nolan has made 1 or 2 “average” films. The rest are original (something very hard to come by) and entertaining.

“ His interpretation is shaped by several distinct thematic and creative choices:
The Brutality of the Bronze Age: Nolan approaches the mythology as a harsh, visceral historical reality rather than a romanticized fairy tale. The Trojan War marks the end of an era, and Greece is portrayed as a traumatized society on the brink of a dark age.
Focus on Trauma and Time: Known for his fascination with temporal displacement and human memory, Nolan uses this epic to explore the heavy physical and psychological toll of a years-long journey. The story serves as an intimate look at how prolonged war and absence change a person.
Re-evaluating Female Agency: Following Wilson's translation, the film strips away romanticized euphemisms (such as "maids" being re-designated as "slaves") to emphasize the harsh social hierarchies of the time. Female characters, particularly Penelope, are portrayed with active intelligence, agency, and strategic cunning, rather than as purely passive figures.
Immersive Visual Style: Leaning heavily into his signature practical effects, Nolan eschews green screens, opting instead to shoot for months on real ocean waves to capture the primal terror and vastness of Odysseus's journey.
This modern, humanizing approach strips away the dust of antiquity to present Odysseus’s journey not just as a mythic adventure, but as a grueling tale of survival, trauma, and leadership.”
This film will still be amazing.

Personally, things are far worse now than they were during the crash of ‘08.

The national average pay for a Superintendent is roughly $156,000.
New Orleans = $336,000
Lafayette = $300,000
Monroe = $206,000 (w/ guaranteed increase)
$150,000 is acceptable for a National average

One parish will not determine a tax increase

Teachers teach. Administrators literally run the business. There is a big difference. Teachers can’t teach if there is no business

Nope. Schools cannot function without Administrators. Many Teachers ultimately become Administrators. You would deter them from the profession.

Nope. They would have used a Constitutionally protected fund to pay for the teachers a raise. It’s a short sided plan that teachers wanted to do in order for a permanent raise of $43 per week.
Louisiana schools benefit from the Educational Excellence Fund. It shouldn’t be dissolved to provide a raise for today’s educators.

Tax increase for teacher pay raise will never pass. Too many children attend private school. Why should parents who pay for private school pay for an increase in salary for public school teachers?

Wasn’t it for (roughly) $2,200 raise?
