The thing they don't realize is that this actually hurts their cause and has the opposite effect of it's desired intent. The same was true with the Soviet bloc back in the day.

These communist dictatorships think dominance at the Olympics will send a message to the rest of the world that they are superior, etc when we all know they lie, cheat and steal to get what they want.

If they just stuck to ping pong, gymnastics and diving, we would just assume they are a highly technical and disciplined people and there might be some geopolitical and socioeconomic rewards that flowed from that sentiment. But going all in just shows what they really are.
