If you need to be wheeled around to your flight because you are in such poor shape that you can’t walk to your terminal or if you are emotionally unstable to the point where you need a service animal with you at all times, then perhaps you shouldn’t be allowed to fly.

I bet that opinion is wildly popular.

Unfortunately we live among retards who take advantage of wheelchairs and service dogs and wear it like a badge of honor instead of a means of necessity. Until these retards are handled properly and shamed, it will only continue

The ATL airport should open a bar where you don’t have to go through TSA and you could sit and just watch the people walk by all day. My favorites are the parents sprinting through the terminal with their kids trying to make a flight.

I went on vacation with my family with a mild discomfort in my lower back. By the time I did return flight, I couldn't walk. I had to be rolled thru airport. I was mortified. Try not to judge too harshly. You never know. Ended up needing surgery right away to remove a growth in my spine.

…but we do know since they can miraculously walk once they arrive at their destination.

I agree but so seldom go to airports.

I love elderly people but do not think they should be able to ride those motorized carts at grocery stores.

I've been saying for years that the percentage of wheelchair bound people is ten fold in an airport. Most of them are lardasses.

Not a wheelchair story but on a return flight we were late and the connecting flight was about to leave and of course it was on the other side of the airport. They got us on a golf cart and this driver thought he was driving an F1 race car.. He never let up on the little roadrunner horn. He nearly ran over a few people and I swear he got that cart on two wheels.. We did make it in time...

I seldom see elderly riding those. It is usually the tubs of goo rolling around in them.

Two Airport stories.
The Family and I are flying to ATL for a wedding. To make things easier, my oldest books a shuttle van, from the house to the airport. I’m in the front riding shotgun. Watching the road, the van shakes, we hear a noise, I tell the girl, get off the interstate at the next exit. Checking all 4 tires, one looks like a donut, the tread is gone. Luckily a Ford dealership is up the road, we pull in, I talk with the service manager, he handles the problem of the tire change. The problem, they put 65psi of air in a normal tire, an 8-10 ply tire can take that, but not a normal truck tire. We did make the flight on time.

2nd Story: twice, the family, friends and I spent New Years at an all inclusive resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
We are flying out of ATL, we have two SUV Limousines driving us to the Airport, we get out at the Airport, my Brother-in-Law, left his passport at the house. I said, the rest check in, he and I will head back to the house. I called my niece who was not going with us. Told her to check both houses. Once found, she met us off the interstate, threw the passport through the limo window. By the time we make it back to the ATL airport, a long line is forming. My sister calls, tells me to break in line, come to the front, she’s already has an airport gentleman to clear us on through.

Once again, we made it on time.

I got another, but that’s for another day. I was flying to ATL, a power failure shutdown the entire airport!

On a recent flight, we had a very short layover in Charlotte for an international flight, which meant we had to change terminals. My wife was still recovering from knee replacement. She could walk but there was no way she was going to be able to speed walk through Charlotte airport to our departing terminal in the short time we had so we got her a wheelchair. Yep, she got out of the wheelchair and walked onto the plane (in our regular boarding group).. Sorry that distresses you.

Another instance I had an afternoon flight to catch but broke my ankle approx 6 hrs before take off. Hobbled to my truck, drove myself to QuickCare, got xrays and wrapped it up. Made my flight but used the wheelchair service to get through the airports. I wasn't going to use crutches with a carry on to get through those long terminals. Sorry if that distressed you, too.

Have noticed the trend of “need assistance” people, who board planes first, is on the rise.

Have also noticed the sky miracles when they have to pee. No assistance needed. Magic.

Dude, some people are travelling to get medical care or for family events near the end of their lives. I suspect it is more trouble for them to do it than for you to watch it. #Havesomedecency

If you need to be wheeled to your flight, you should be last to exit the plane. If you don’t need it to depart, then you should get put on a list

100% agree.

And the hold up wheel cheers for the elderly that actually need it. So they have to wait 30+ mins at the gate to be able. There should be a way to pay in advance for first dibs
