Under Minnesota Statute 97B.667, which governs nuisance animal removal, a 2024 omnibus environment and natural resources bill added the provision: “Human consumption of a retained beaver is prohibited” . As of now, you cannot legally eat nuisance beavers in Minnesota if you trap them for property damage. If you trap beavers for other reasons (e.g., sport hunting), you may still eat them, but you must follow all trapping and consumption laws. The repeal bill is pending, so the law could change in the future.
