Thoughts on who will be the final torchbearer (or bearers)?

The first person that came to mind was Carl Lewis. Him or Michael Phelps.

It will probably be someone equally as lame as the red hot chili peppers

I’m not sure who gets the final cauldron lighting but it will be a final relay with Phelps, Lewis, biles, Lebron etc I’m sure

If Kobe was alive good chance he could have been the final cauldron guy

Depends on if LA goes the "inclusive" route or not.

If yes Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner.

If no, then Carl Lewis, Mary Lou Retton, Edwin Moses (is he still alive?) or Phelps.

Since Mary Lou Retton dominated the Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984, I would expect her to be a prime candidate

Definitely think there will be some type of homage to the 84 games. Maybe not the final lighter but someone will be involved. Carl Lewis makes a lot of sense

Moses is still alive, I'd also add Joan Benoit to that list.

Hopefully it's an athlete not a celebrity, but if there's a way to screw it up, I trust Los Angeles and California to figure out how to do it.

Had forgotten about her.

Not that he would light the cauldron, but I hope that John Williams is still alive in four years. He has to write the theme music and conduct it for LA. He did it for '84, he did it for '96, and for '02.

He'll be 96 years old so that's a tall order (but I'm sure he'll try).

The key people in the relay will be Carl Lewis bc of his general success and 1984 in particular, Michael Phelps, Janet Evans (LA ties), Michael Johnson (face of the last US summer games), I would have said Shaun White but they seem to keep the Winter and Summer success separate (otherwise he is an obvious pick and a SoCal native), Katie Ledecky if she isn’t competing in the next day or two, Allyson Felix (LA native and amazing Olympic success), LeBron, Kareem, and Magic Johnson.

My guess is the final person will be one of Magic, Carl Lewis, or Michael Phelps.

ETA: Simone Biles and Mary Lou Retton would also play a key role in the final 8-10 people.

I expect celebrities to be involved but not in the final stretch.

My pick as of now is the 92 Dream Team, similar to what we did in Salt Lake with the Miracle on Ice team just because of the impact the 92 team had on the rest of the world.

Gotta be B-boy Victor. It's LA. The importance of his Mexican identity will resonate with the Latino Community and help bridge the international cultural diversity that will be coming to the City.

I can see the Dream Team but…

How do you not choose Phelps? The most decorated Olympian ever.

They should just announce it now.

I'd be a little surprised if it isn't Lebron
