In explaining his decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU, Lane Kiffin seems willing to invoke Ole Miss's struggle to distance itself from symbols like the Confederate flag, Colonel Rebel, and the nickname "Ole Miss" itself.
When he was coaching there, Kiffin says, top recruits would tell him, “‘Hey, coach, we really like you. But my grandparents aren’t letting me move to Oxford, Mississippi.’ That doesn’t come up when you say Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Parents were sitting here this weekend saying the campus’s diversity feels so great: ‘It feels like there’s no segregation’”

He gave Frank Wilson all the ammo he needs when the Ole Miss fanbase starts wondering why he can't sign elite talent like he did at LSU.

Good. Probably should be mentioned more often in recruiting to put those bozos back where they belong

I respect it and I’m glad our coach knows how to play the game but I could never pander to that for any amount of money

I mean yeah ok but...
Where does the "Tigers" nickname come from

I don't mind this angle at all. If they want to negative recruit by saying Baton Rouge is dangerous, we should give it back to them.

This is going to rile them up big time.

Shhhh

The LSU Tigers nickname, adopted in 1896, originates from Civil War history, specifically honoring the "Louisiana Tigers," a famed brigade of Confederate soldiers known for their ferocity.

I mean, if your grandparents are making the decision on where you play college football as a recruit, you're probably not gonna fare that well anywhere when you get to college and have to make a lot of decisions on your own.

That game is going to be something else
I actually worry a little for any coaches, players and fans safety there

Thank God we have never seen this logo or sticker around town or surrounding parishes - may scare off some grandparents!
Sarcasm.
This is such a non-issue in regards to the stars and bars

In fairness they fought for the US before and after the late unpleasantries.

The Ole Miss media and twitter accounts are all a'melt this morning. I think they're proving his point for him.

Tuberville said the same thing 30 years ago.
The Confederate symbolism is more direct there. That makes it harder to recruit outside the South. You spend half the visit trying to convince the parents the Klan isn't going to come for their kids.
Their biggest problem is they're the runts of the SEC. You have multiple better programs one or two states away.
