but we don’t need the Spirit Airlines of the sea, if you catch my drift.

It’s too popular. People don’t go on cruises anymore

After being crammed in a plane for a 10 hour flight, the last thing I would want to do is get on a boat with a tiny cabin.
I don’t think people spend to much time in the cabin. They have nice decks to sit on, gyms, some have a walking track, lots of restaurants, pools and such.
I wouldn’t want to cruiser every vacation but I’ve been before and it was fun.
I think this board thinks every ship is like the footage of the three night gulf cruises they see online.

I've never been on a cruise and I just don't see the appeal. I want to travel to my destination and relax and have fun. I know a guy that constantly is telling me how great the cruises are and trying to convince me why they are great. Every single reason he gives me, I just say, that sounds awful.

I am just glad you folks that don't like cruises aren't on them.
You would be miserable and I don't want to be on a boat full of miserable people.
We go on a cruise every few years. We have done a few Caribbean, an Alaska, one around Cape Horn.
Another Alaskan, a European/Med/Nordic and a Pacific cruise probably in the next few years....

It's really not that bad.
That's definitely how I want to describe my vacations afterwards
To each his own, though. More power to folks that like it. I prefer other vacation options.

No, there are levels to cruises. The three stop, 5 day cruises from the US to a few islands are the bottom of the barrel

No, it’s just trashy and our culture shouldn’t support trash. Pretty simple.

If they offloaded every cruise ship, sailed them to the middle of the Atlantic, and let a a few Los Angeles class subs practice torpedoing every one, I would not notice.
I'm not getting on a floating germ factory with a bunch of idiots you cannot get away from.
But that's just me.

I’m not. Nor am I pretending to be LNCH.
Not sure why you’re teeing off on me today, but I’ll try this again.
I used Spirit Airlines as an example because we’ve all seen the viral videos over the past decade. The airline … and far too many of its customers, have become a symbol of chaotic, trashy public behavior that our country shouldn’t normalize, reward, or subsidize.
That’s my broader point: we don’t need the cruise industry equivalent of that at sea. If that means a few cruise lines clean up their act, or disappear altogether, so be it. Public behavior matters, and the race to the bottom isn’t something we should be celebrating or supporting financially.

quote:exactly. If you do the 3 day cruise out of NOLA for like $300 expect shite. If you fly to Miami, Port Canaveral etc.and get on one of the nicer lines it’s nothing like what I’ve seen in videos. I’ve only been on 3 so I’m no expert by any means but all were royal Caribbean or higher and all 7+ days.
If you do a higher end cruise, you don’t

Cruise lines are making more money than they ever have.

There are a lot of “normal” people who absolutely love cruises, mostly retirees.
It is economical for them. No planning. Slower pace. Everything is already curated.

I’m pretty talented at operating a 18ft bass boat, but admittedly I’m not quite qualified to captain a 1k cruise liner ship.

Gotta love people with no experience saying nonsense like this.
One Carnival cruise was enough for me.

Think of a huge resort hotel with gyms, pools, clubs, etc., that allows you to visit a different city every time you make a port of call. So you party all night, wake up and see...St. Tropez. Then you party all night and wake up and see...um, Monte Carlo. Then you party all night and wake up to see...Rome, maybe?
This is how I feel about them, I have done 5 cruises, 4 different lines. Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Carnival. Carnival was the least spectacular but it wasn't that bad (although some videos you see now look awful).
I look at it like a nice arse hotel that takes you places as opposed to spending the week in one location, yes they can get people-y but I enjoy the variety of destinations you get to visit.
To each their own, but Id encourage everyone to try it at least once, and don't go bottom of the barrel.

Is cruise industry about to collapse?

norovirus

hantavirus
quote:That's a tiny slice of a huge industry that you believe is more than it is because you are siloed in your social media bubble, seemingly unaware.
weave-pulling fights in the buffet lines
quote:Guaranteed, there are scores of ships and experiences you would greatly enjoy that wouldn't conform to many of your prior beliefs.
I don't see how anyone in their right mind would willingly elect to be subjected to confinement in one of these hellholes.
e.g. Cunard is sailing an "eclipse cruise" later this year - positioned to see basically the last totality for decades. You should go look at their dress code.
They almost don't even allow shorts during the day. It says that they do, but it is frowned upon and they deliver more stern indications than the website has to actual cruisers.
