Tell me a bit about what you're doing with IPTV? my old implementation was through plex and threadfin but to say that was fragile was an understatement. i would like dvr capabilities and better management of channels but also a decent client on android tv devices. So far i've hated every one i've used so i haven't considered purchasing anything yet.

but thats not a priority right now..

so i bit the bullet and overhauled EVERYTHING. RAID1 ZFS SSD Proxmox architecture on my 3620, VMs and LXCs galore..just a damn christmas tree of severs and fun.

it went ridiculously smooth and i highly recommend it to anyone; with of course the usual ONE exception.

Msft refuses to activate/authenticate my Win10 VM because the key is embedded in the Dell FIRMWARE so its invalid for the VM..even though it could absolutely look it up in the Firmware (because i can run a ps script and see it myself while i'm in the win vm) so this is just microsoft being a little bitch as usual.


FU microsft. its a shitty eol win 10 and i dont even want to use it in the first place except for a few tools and the office 2021 i purchased.

they say my only option is a $200 license for something i already own. frick. THAT.

i'm looking on ebay at $20 win 10 pro keys; anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on other paths here?

Sounds like a no brainer for garage door. We haven't gotten that far yet.

So would you advocate for that over the current plan? My mind is blown how you can do irrigation with an esp32 controller. I've got rachio but haven't been overly impressed with their sales pitches in the app and cloud issues. Nobody told me I had to pay to get my weather station integrated in rachio. bullshite.

I assume I'll still need most of the electrical stuff in my diagram or are the esp32 devices require an outlet? I guess the sensors don't.. Just the brain.

So in my never ending quest to help my friend build out the perfect off-the-grid smart home, I've taken my battle to the batteries!



Rather than rely on zwave+ doodads that require new button batteries every year or so I just discovered you can mix wired and wireless.

So for instance, in my current projects I have eye beam sensors at top and bottom of the stair runs and a zoos valve shut off device in the garage.

I started out with wireless motion detectors for the stairs and zwave+ wireless leak detector pucks.

Dumb.

Updated plan: cheap contact sensors that will still work with the zoos and wired eye beams.

All that requires is to string cat6 throughout the basement ceiling which is still open and poke it up under the stairs and through the floor under the plumbed coffee machine, dishwasher, fridge, plumbed robot mop...

Much better. Wireless pucks may still have a use but doing it this way hardens the infrastructure again.. Even if home assistant crashes those contact sensors will still do the job and we still have a massive box of unused cat6a cable so that part is "free".
