Read it shortly after it came out; was always a big fan of his and that one was next in line.
GREAT book, as someone pointed out, mainly focused at the climate change alarmists. I remember at the time those folks were P.O.'ed BIG time at Crichton and the book.
What's funny in looking back on it now, with the recent truths coming out about the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is how the premise in the book (which many back then claimed as ludicrous or far-fetched) EXACTLY parallels what the SPLC was exposed as doing:
"However, in this case the threat is not from nature or technology run amok, but from a gang of ecoterrorists who attempt to deploy sophisticated technology to simulate natural disasters in an effort to increase media coverage and public fear of the risks of climate change. The ecoterrorists turn out to be in the employ of a national environmental law organization whose leaders are knowingly making fallacious or exaggerated claims about the danger of climate change. Dependent on a “state of fear” to meet the growing financial needs of the organization..."

Read this book years ago and thought it was one of, if not, the best novel written by chrichton. A lot of truth in the book.

The best explanation for climate change I've found is from Michael Crichton's take on the issue. Aliens... makes more sense than any other argument I've seen. It is a bit of a read, but it is worth it.

As great as State of Fear is, and I read it back in 2011, Next is his masterpiece. Genetic engineering is horrifying.

Crichton's website had some of the best articles on there. But his family took them down after he died.

I’ve read all his books. That’s definitely one of the best.

He was ahead on Covid too when you read Adromed Strain and almost all hsi books coud be seen as prophetic warnings.
Reports we re he died of Cancer at 66 after battling it secretly for years.
Some people say he was murdered and did not ahve cancer.
