Olympic Boxing is way more action packed than US professional boxing

Watching this morning and these guys from all weight classes really come out throwing punches. It is way more interesting to watch than the dancing styles of typical professional boxing matches in the US.

Olympic boxing used to be very boring because they didn't want a lot of contact and it was more based on technical points.
Maybe that has changed.

It did used to be that way back in the day.
I think that the last couple of Olympics has been more loose in the rules.
I had earlier watched 4 matches and each one had at least one knockdown (in the 3 round total matches).....maybe having boxers from Uzbekistan going against Algeria leads to a match where it is no holds barred

Watching France vs Ireland was definitely interesting. Guy from Ireland fought like they did in 1800s.
Think they said he won a medal too in Tokyo.

Pure speculation on my part, but could this have to do with the IOC finally trying to stamp out corruption? They even banned the IBA after an investigation into the Rio Olympics.
Loosening the rules would make it difficult for corrupt judges to hide behind more technical scoring, which likely allows the boxers to feel free to actually box.

Floyd playing for points will do that

actually saw a TKO this morning. Usually don't see that in Olympics.
The fight wit the Irish fighter yesterday was hilarious. The ref finally stopped the bout and told them they HAD to start fighting. It was a synchronized dance contest until that point.

This. For many years Olympic boxing was all about "touches" and not necessarily about hard punching, so boxers would go out and throw a lot of pitty-pat punches to score points and that made it boring.
I haven't seen a single boxing match as of yet but will give them a view soon.
I did see there was already a couple controversial decisions in bouts, so boxing scoring as usual with corrupt judges seems to still be going on.
