Spirit Airlines: a tribute to an American legend

The old man in me is slightly bothered by the execution of that video that included a fight that happened on a different airline

Thankfully, my frequent flyer days are over and I never had to fly spirit airlines.

Murdered by Elizabeth Warren.
quote:
In March 2024, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren celebrated the federal government’s successful lawsuit to kill a $3.8 billion merger between JetBlue and Spirit, calling the move a “Biden win for flyers.”
At the time, Warren and the Department of Justice argued that preventing the two airlines from combining would protect low-cost seats and prevent “runaway airline consolidation.”
However, following that court victory, Spirit’s path to survival vanished. The Florida-based carrier, which had lost nearly $2 billion since 2020, faced mounting debt and engine issues that it could not overcome without the JetBlue lifeline.

Right. Not a shitty customer base produced by its business model.

I was going to fly spirit a couple years ago until a coworker told me about them. After a couple videos I just paid the extra money and flew united

I hope Spirit's customer base (IYKWIM) remembers that it was a Democratic senator and administration that killed their airline.

Pour one out to the 5x a week direct flight to Cancun from Nola. It was $200~ round trip. I used to on whim up and go to Isla mujeres because I could have a fun 2-3 day weekend and come back and go to work Monday. The other fights are less frequent and twice a much. If all you had was a backpack spirit was OK.

What airline will fill the void and become the new flying Waffle House?

I hope their clientele move only to frontier

This news has zero impact on me since I haven’t flown commercial in decades.

It's her greatest achievement. Frontier and JetBlue can pick up the slack.

Very interesting! Thanks for letting us know.

Years ago I flew them once from Houston to Vegas round trip for less than $100 on Spirit. Unlike a lazy idiot, I read the rules so packed a backpack and was good to go. Had zero issues.

That’s AWESOME! I am going miss the fights at the gate you got to watch while waiting on my AA flights at DFW.
