According to WAFB
I still say it was a gigantic mistep in failed branding to name the team the Zydeco instead of the motherfricking Red Sticks. Whole team should've had blood-red hockey sticks and they should've sold merch that really emphasized that. Big red foam hockey sticks to hit people with at the games, logos and mascot(s) on clothing that played up the red stick motif with blood, flames, etc. People really eat that shite up.

The Baton Rouge Zydeco appear to be shutting down after the team’s president indicated staff departures and layoffs in a social media post.
The post thanks the players, staff, interns, and ownership for their contributions over the past three seasons.
The team has not released a formal statement confirming its status, and it remains unclear whether the organization is permanently ceasing operations, relocating, or undergoing restructuring.

It was a horseshite, fly-by-night league from the beginning. I am surprised they made it 3 years.

I went to a few games this past season. Obviously not packed, but still good crowds, but I never saw them win in person.
Also heard there was issues with someone in the background too
And yes, there were much better names than the Zydeco

I went to one game this year. The team was terrible. The experience wasn’t much better. The Kingfish were a much better franchise and fan experience.

At least the ECHL was a legit league.
The "fan experience" got stale after a while and the fad wore off. It got to where you could predict what song they were going to play during stoppages and in what order they were coming.

1. Zydeco name wasn’t the best
2. Many fans were desiring a minor league level of play, not the FPHL.
3. River Center is so drab and about 30 years overdue for any type of upgrade.

No "may be" about it. They are not renewing.

Baton Rouge hockey team folds, shocked I tell you.

Marketing/team name wasn't the issue.
A semi-pro hockey team in the deep south in a arena that was outdated in 1999 was the issue.

Unaffiliated
Sketch venue

I know a woman who worked with the organization during the early stages. They had a "Name the Team" contest and the owner was intent on having something music-related. He ended up choosing the "Bayou Blues" for the name but in the process of getting everything finalized he discovered that there is actually a town named Bayou Blue and he would have to pay to use the name. So instead of doing that he decided to go with Zydeco. It was doomed from the start.

The name doesn't matter.
They weren't suddenly going to have more people going to see a shite product in a shite arena if they were called the Red Sticks.

I’ve been to a couple of the games in Pensacola. That arena is far worse than the River Center… but the games are fun, crowds are large, and the team was competitive. Maybe BR needs a team in that league.

Amen to that. If they would have only named the team the Red Sticks the house would be packed.

Switch 3 and 1 and it’s a reasonable post.

Monroe Moccasins are doing well, but I agree the league they are in is terrible. It’s want to be minor league play.

is there a stock car racing circuit in Canada?

Some of the teams in that league do pretty well.
Huntsville Havoc
Birmingham Bulls - play in Pelham
Pensacola Ice Flyers
