Imagine being such a flake you root for people who are openly condescending to you and your way of life because they were born in some proximity to you.

Dutch had to Hail Mary Bol into that race to stand a chance. Wasn’t worth it to run Syd there.

Pedro, what event was the Mexico 1 base point in? Just curious

American 4x400 women had the biggest lead since Secretariat at Belmont.

This is such a stupid take, it cost us a guaranteed gold medal. There was zero reason not to run her. There were days in between that race and her event. We got a chick out there running the 5k, 10k, and marathon and pretending the best track athlete in the world can't run 3 400s in a week when she doesn't even have to expend max energy in any of them.
In the running with the Alabama guy declining a gold medal and to a lesser degree with changing up our 4x100 relay order as worst decisions of the games.

It's been fun. Let's do it again in 4 years! (Anyone else going to LA?)

Thanks. I was just looking over the OP list and it's just so strange overall. St. Lucia, of about 200K pop vs. millions and millions more. Mexico should honestly never ever be this shitty every year. They should basically be Kenya.

My wife asked when track started the other day if I was planning on it. I think I'll save up for us to go all out. Flights, hotels, tickets to multiple sessions won't be cheap but how can I not go after the week US track just had?

She would’ve had heats of the hurdles next day.
Also that would’ve made it 5 400s. (2 relays, 3 hurdles). With 3 of those races being ones that are in the 3 events that get brought up in conversations for “hardest track event”
Also everyone submits their teams at the same time. Unless the Dutch told us there was no way to know for sure femke was going to be in that race. And there was absolutely zero reason to run syd if femke doesn’t run.
Also femke looked like complete garbage in that 400 hurdle race. Say what you want but it’s entirely possible the relay hurt her. Now does that mean it would’ve been the same for syd? No but something to consider.
Also I’d be shocked if siffan is anywhere near close to as good as she could be in the marathon tomorrow. Respect to her for trying but all of that running has to take a toll on her at some point. If she’s even close to medaling tomorrow I’ll eat crow but my bet is by mile 16 she’s fading hard.

Be honest, if Sydney runs do we win that relay, does she still win the 400h, and do we still win the 4x400. If they were caught off guard by femke running that's on them, she always runs

Probably. However there’s the chance that we don’t. If I had to bet I would’ve bet gold in all 3 but the odds in the other two definitely would’ve went down some. I’ve run a lot of track in my life and have done some hard doubles/triples/quads. I wouldn’t want anything to do with 2 open 400s and 3 400 hurdle races in the span of a week.
Again no one knew for sure if femke would run that race until they came out the tunnel. If you don’t think she’s going to run there’s no reason to run syd there. And hell even with femke running that same team just set the world record the night before. There was no real reason to mess with it.

Kersee is also a very conservative coach when it comes to Sydney’s mileage. He has pretty much said she will never do two individual events in a major tournament, just one and the 4x400.
And the US relay coaches will defer to Kersee on this.

Very interesting development in Paris. Bryce Hoppel may be getting a bronze medal at some point.
