BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Attorneys for at least 48 athletes are asking a state judge to hold the Southeastern Conference, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and LSU in contempt over an eligibility order, according to a court filing.

The motion for contempt and for a rule to show cause, filed Oct. 5 in the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge Parish, alleges the SEC and LSU violated a preliminary injunction signed Sept. 9.

According to the filing, the Sept. 9 order allows the plaintiffs to compete in SEC or NCAA Division I athletics during the 2026-2027 season if they terminated any professional contract and repaid compensation. The motion quotes the order as stating the plaintiffs “are eligible today” if they would have otherwise been eligible to continue playing.
