As I understand, first you can make legit money competing in Europe. Secondly, if you are the worlds best and tweak a muscle at US Olympic trials, then you’re fricked. Other countries will still let you compete as an Olympian considering those circumstances.

This would be a pretty piss poor excuse, and frankly I doubt he was ever worried about it. The dad coaching him reason probably was 95% of why.

I decided to look it up and this is what the Swedish guy running the program said was the deciding factor. The link I found said Deplantis turned them down at first but then the Swedes came back and said Greg could coach him and that sealed it.
I’d still like to see him switch it up and qualify as an American for an Olympics just to screw with everyone.

In his interview he said the noise was extremely loud but he was prepared for it because of Death Valley and being in the loudest environments like Tiger Stadium.
Being an Olympian is an individual achievement, not a country achievement. He's the gold medalist, not Sweden. He's representing his heritage, leave him be. The people that take issue are the fricking simps lol

Mondo's Swedish is terrible. There's a video on YouTube of him starting out an interview in Swedish and then asking to switch to English because his Swedish sucks

Diamond league you are representing yourself, the modern Olympics have always been a contest of nations. You are representing your nation, not yourself. He chose Sweden and that's fine and ok to admit.

I've been in this thread since the start. I think we've reached the point where we all know the arguments on both sides. I had a negative opinion of him until it was pointed out that he stood next to Kendricks with his hand over his heart as they played the SSB for Noah Lyles.
I think you need to put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself what you'd do. I'll also point out that he's not allowing himself to be used as a propaganda piece for the CCP. Gu deserves every dirty look and word she gets. She sold her soul for a bunch of cash.
