Indeed, as the chart below shows, it was not until 1991 that the Gallup polling shows more Americans were in favor of interracial marriage than were opposed.
A lot of people believe the states should be able to have referendums to settle issues like these. Do you think the states should have been able to have individual referendums on whether interracial marriage was legal or not?

What are you suggesting? That the government, which is of the people override decisions made by the people?
I think people should be able to get married if they choose, but I also think communities have the right to decide what are local standards.

So you think it's ok for states to be able to deny people of different races to marry one another?

Toddy. You aren't black. You aren't the functional equivalent in the discussion of a black person in 1968 or today. Hence, there is no point to your point.

No, states should not be able to impose laws prohibiting interracial marriage.

I don't believe that is a concern this day and age. Do you?

Marriage is very overrated. Some people put way too much stock in it.
Unless you're planning on having kids, whats the use in it?

You're not answering my question.

Governments should not be involved in marriage, period. I think that any two people that care for each other and want to live together can do so.
I think states can issue licenses to anyone they choose to issue licenses to. I think it's wrong to discriminate, but I totally support peoples right to be discriminatory.
This is all purely hypothetical. Interracial marriage is allowed.

I disagree on the personal grounds of how well it suits me and my family, but I understand to each their own.

So, in essence, you don't agree with 1967 Loving v. Virginia decision in which the Supreme Court ruled interracial marriage bans were unconstitutional? That the states should have been able to decide?

You obviously don't believe in the constitution, in particular, the 14th Amendment.

If you are planning on bringing children into the relationship I'm all for marriage.
If not, how does a marriage license prove an undying love for your partner?

1) Govt should not be in marriage, period.
2) States and local institutions should be allowed to license who they choose.
3) The way our laws are written, number two is impossible so I agree with the decision.
