Time feels like it moves faster as you age because your brain processes fewer new experiences and stores fewer distinct memories.
The "Pin Drop" Effect: When you are young, everything is new. Your brain records heavy detail, which makes time feel wide and slow.
Daily Routines: As an adult, life becomes routine. Your brain goes on autopilot and skips recording repetitive details.
When you review a period with no unique memories, it feels short because your mind has very little data to look back on.
Fraction of Life: A single year is a large fraction of a child's life. For a 5-year-old, one year is 20 percent of everything they know.
Smaller Impact: For a 50-year-old, one year is only 2 percent of their life. This makes each passing year feel proportionally smaller and quicker.

It does go by too fast. When you (in general) are a kid it seems like time crawls. It seems like it took forever to get to Christmas. The school day felt long.. An hour felt like three at mass. Now.. I feel like I am on the opposite side of that. For some reason, when football season comes around, it seems like the rest of the year flies by. You get to March and you are wondering where the hell January went. Maybe I should go sit in church more often to slow time down.

I was introduced into a thought process way before I had kids my uncle basically said you get 75 years on this planet.

It only goes faster as the years pass. Live in the moment as best you can. You’ll look up one day and realize you’re 80. If we are lucky enough to get that far.

35 here. My life was slow until I was 25. Since then, rapid fire. Same year I had my first child as well. Starting to feel old too.
A loose acquaintance from high school just passed away this week. She was 35. A bunch of friends shared pictures and memories from our elementary, middle school, and high school years. When I see those pictures, I feel like I’m the exact same age I was when they were taken, but that was 15, 20, and 25 years ago. Life is funny. We live many lives, but always feel like we are still in one that doesn’t exist.

I remember when I started my career as a young engineer expressing to some older guys at work that I was looking forward to retirement. They looked at me like I was crazy. Now I am retired after a 35-year career. Those guys have both passed.
Man, that seems like it was yesterday…

O-T response: Within ten years she will leaving the house via her window while you sleep.
Serious response: Make special days to remember. Celebrate their milestones. Take a photo (or short video these days), but do not hold up your phone for little Braxxton's every at bat. I put snapshots of my daughter on the refrigerator when she learned to ride a bike, sang on tv, jumped a half-ton horse over a fence, and beat a mascot around the bases at a pro baseball game to win a t-shirt. Those little things make memories you can cherish with them after their careers take them several thousand miles away. Moments of time-travel.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news….it gets much worse. Time is about to go “ludicrous speed.” They’ll be graduating in 10 minutes. I wish I could relive life from where you are now.
