The only reason to pick Roatan would be if snorkeling or diving was the big driver. Bahamas will have more upscale places available. Caymans probably has some nice places, even on Little Cayman if you are looking for something quiet....

Most divers will carry a knife or dive tool as a standard part of their equipment. Don’t know if this guy had one. Maybe he couldn’t reach it. Maybe the screwdriver is what he had handy or already in his hand....
