The atmosphere every time he races is flat out electric. Makes me excited for a home olympics in LA in Sofi.

His surge at the end along with the surge of the crowd was awesome.

Even competitors in other races have stated the arena is buzzing the entire session whenever he has a final. Everything is amped up whenever Leon is in the building.

Yes, this is very similar to Thorpe in Sydney. The big difference being that Leon comes across as a nice guy (training in the US with Phelps's coach helps) but Thorpe came across as an arrogant prick.

Marchand goes to AZ State. Anyone think he would be this good if he didn't have all American training?

I think the coaching plays a big part. However his physical gifts came long before he went to ASU.

He was under 4:10 4im before coming to America, at 19. He added 1.5 seconds to that time from french trials to finish a horrific 6th at the 2021 Olympics. It's not like European men haven't won every individual event except the 100 free so far... and Leon is the only one swimming in the states amongst them.

Thorpe came across as a prick, but Phelps talks about him in almost glowing terms as a competitor and as a friend.. The Aussies are really big into their swimming

They have a long and proud tradition in the pool. They've earned a bit of arrogance as have the Americans.

Phelps is blazed out of his mind so watching him watch anything is entertaining.

Definitely. Can you imagine if Phelps had competed at an Olympics in the US.
