Roofing, Internet and Cell service providers, and Pest Control solicitors come to mind in my neighborhood.

I don't know, I have noticed that even during election time the local candidates don't go door to door like they used to. If there was a mayors race, chief of police race and a city council race, how ever many candidates were in those races, that was how many people you could expect to come knock on your door. Now they get someone to go put a card on everyone's door and use social media to post pictures of whatever...

Nothing worse than cooking dinner or doing something around your house and a roofer knocking on your door.

It's so pathetic when they start trying to tell me all m neighbors they've been working for and are too stupid to understand that some people actually know who all their neighbors are.

I try to be polite if they're polite, especially guys who might think they have real sales jobs and don't realize they look like they're casing the neighborhood.

Our neighborhood has good enough security that they don't worry me too much, and some might actually be discretely walking thru the neighborhood for good reasons, but it's annoying as shite how much they set the dog off or can't take a hint to leave.

They go through cycles in my neighborhood. It'll be solar panels for a while, then roofers, then fencers or GC's all using similar scripts.

They're targeting elderly/senile people who think they're still in control and might get a real good deal.

I've tried explaining it to my dad, but someone trying to look sharp will remember that they did in fact sign up for something on the internet and will pay thousands for something a rando contractor could do for hundreds and never give any thought to who they just gave permission to come and go through their house and yard.

And they won't even notice if the same guy shows up at the door again.

About the only soliciting I get nowadays are people trying to sell telecom services.

When I point out that solicitation is illegal in my town, they usually haul arse out of there!

have a buddy who works for Edward Jones and I think they still require their new guys to knock on a certain amount of doors when they first start. I know he had to do it when he first started. I guess it's sort of a weeding out process they go through to see how seriously they want the job since it was one of the first things they told him he would have to do following all of their training in St. Louis.

This is mostly correct. I’m in financial services, life insurance, employee benefits, tax-saving plans, etc. Depends on the market but you HAVE to make contact with people somehow.

If you’re working with wealthy people, business owners, most don’t want you knocking on the door of their house. Those appointments are made differently. I work with small to medium size companies and city and county governments. It’s mostly blue and gray collar.

So much is done digitally today. Signatures, everything. We sell as much insurance sitting at a computer as we used to do making in-person sales calls all day. Don’t even have to see them.

I recently watched a video of a couple of guys knocking on doors selling no soliciting stickers. Genius idea. Sounded like they were making a killing.

When i did door to door i did that, I wasn't very successful. I just don't like being pushy because I myself can't stand pushy people.

I had a roofing guy come by the other day.

"Hey, I'm doing some roofs in the area and noticed yours is showing some wear and tear and damage. Possibly in need of replacement. Do you know how old it is?"

My response.

"Two weeks. Sling your hook elsewhere."

Surely I’m not the only person that this has happened to. Several times in my life I’ve had someone knock on my door trying to sell steaks from their car. I’ve also had people try to sell me shrimp. No thanks.

I have a no solicitation sign at the front door and a very bad attitude when it comes to people who come to my property to solicit.

I try to answer the door with my pistol, I use it to point. Then tell them every entrance to the subdivision has “No Soliciting “ signs.

Moved into a new developed neighborhood last year. Get someone trying to sell something almost once a week.

Its almost always a pest control company, solar panels, or alarm system folks.

I did sign up with one of the pest companies when we first moved in. Picked the one that came at a reasonable time. Some of those frickers will show up at 5pm on a Friday
