Don't judge if you don't know. We eat a healthy diet, fast food is rare, I do like the Popeye's chicken sandwich, but I have maybe 1 or 2 a year. So far most of my hospitalizations have been due to orthopedic issues.

Nutritionists are not in charge of the food, and the hospital has registered dietitians not nutritionists. And they don’t have anything to do with the food either.
If anything, they’ll come talk to you about changing your diet and educate you on what may be needed if that’s part of why you’re there. Should you need a tube feeding that’s when they may call for something specific.
Anyone can be a “nutritionist” but dietitians have to go through a masters program and be registered in Louisiana.

That sounds more like a you problem than a hospital problem. Would you expect gourmet quality food at McDonald’s?

Institutional food is always bad. The same reason why school food and army food is bad.
Also, prison food is bad, and jail food is even worse than prison food is.

I agree with OP. When my wife was hospitalized for a week after our 2nd kid was born our insurance paid for all the hospital meals but by day 2 I was running out and grabbing something - anything - I could find. Even something stupid like JimmyJohns was 10x better.

I used to go to the cafeteria in the old HPL charity hospital in Pineville on the days they had fried catfish.

I tore up the Methodist Hospital Med Center cafeteria when my dad was ill several years ago. Great burgers, pizza, fried fish, soup, salad bar, etc.--enough to put the visitors of patients in the hospital as well with clogged arteries.

Growing up we made a special trip to eat at st Francis hospital after church on Sundays. My dad was in there a couple years ago and they were serving gumbo and it was like $3 and very tasty so I disagree

A couple decades ago, I was doing quite a bit of work in DeSoto Parish. Right before the Haynesville boom. At that time, the hospital in Mansfield was one of the better places in that town to grab lunch.

I doubt nutritionists have much to do with hospital food. The bean counters drive every aspect of a hospital’s practices.
Hospital nutritionists aren't serving the foods the OP wants to eat. They aren't serving salt, sugar, butter, fried foods (a Popeyes sandwich) or heavily seasoned (salted) proteins & vegetables.

We were at Texas Children's a couple of years ago while our daughter was still in utero. We were really impressed with the food options there. Chick-fil-A, maybe McDonald's. The cafeteria had a huge breakfast burrito station each morning.

I loved our hospital food when I was in residency. We ate for free and I usually ate three meals a day there. The breakfast on weekends was the best.

Food at Children's in NOLA was surprisingly decent when my daughter was there a couple years ago for a few days. But yea most hospital food is bland crap.
