I mean CU had some pretty good crowds at home games. In this era of “all about the benjamins”, winning isn’t everything for the institution. A freak show that draws a crowd despite losing still makes money.

Huge difference between college and NFL.

He doesn't have his Heisman winning buddy to throw to, and even if he did, the defenses are head and shoulders better than anything in the Big XII.

Drafting him this late isn't going to drive a spike in season ticket sales. Maybe, just maybe, they sell a few thousand extra tickets for a preseason game or two if you know he will be playing, but a likely clipboard holder isn't going to put butts in seats during the regular season.
I had a cousin who spent a few years at GDCP. I went to visit a couple of times and it was so weird to see the death row visitation section. It was (still is?) segregated from the rest of the visitation area but behind a big glass door where you could still see the people in there.

And some change names (often more than once) before landing on the name that they break out under.

Does Barkley?

For just what he did at Auburn, not really. But taking his entire life/career into account (NBA 50th and 75th anniversary teams; 11 time all star; 5 time 1st team All NBA; NBA MVP; hundreds of thousands given to AU; amazing post playing career as a studio analyst for the NBA and March Madness)

Bachelor of Science, Business Administration (BSBA) Information Systems Management.

Was the shrimp and grits covered in a brown gravy?

I believe so. I think they called it a tasso ham gravy.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one not a fan. Acme Lowcountry Kitchen on Isle of Palms used to have amazing shrimp and grits (something like 8 variations) but the last time we were there (summer 2022) they had cut back on the options.

re: Next Papal Name Challenge

Is it too soon for John Paul III? If the next Pope is a return to a more traditional set of beliefs could that be a possibility?

I know why John Paul II took the name, but are there any precedents for the length of time or number of individuals between reuse of a papal name?

re: Weekend trip to charlotte or Denver

Denver is beautiful. Downtown you have the US mint, state capitol (with 1 mile above sea level marked on one of the steps) and you might catch the Rockies in town. If you rent a car it's a short drive to Golden and Boulder which are both nice in their own right. Weed is 100% legal and you will smell it out in public most places that you go.

Charlotte is nice. If you are a NASCAR fan the hall of fame is downtown and well done. A short drive up to/around Concord puts you by most of the major team shops. Also a short drive to King's Mountain and a couple of other Revolutionary War sites.

Wasn't that a change made by the official scorer? Unless something has changed in the last year or two, the official scorer isn't an umpire but an employee of the home team.

I prefer Middleton. Absolutely beautiful place

Middleton is gorgeous. We are drawn to Magnolia because of the wildlife - in especially the rookeries in the old rice fields. The sheer number and varieties of camellias and azaleas in bloom in the spring are amazing as well.

When were you in town? The first weekend of April was gorgeous here

We got in late afternoon on Saturday the 5th and left Saturday morning the 12th.

Spent Sunday on the beach, Monday at the house because the forecast has called for rain, Tuesday in town, Wednesday at Magnolia, Thursday afternoon walking the beach to the lighthouse, and Friday on the beach.

Charleston/Folly Beach Spring Break 2025

Posted by PJinAtl on 4/21/25 at 10:30 am
A few quick notes from our trip to Charleston/Folly Beach for spring break two weeks ago.

First time staying at Folly Beach. Definitely a different vibe than what we are used to at Isle of Palms, but a cool funky place. We stayed well up the beach from the heart of the island. We rented from Carolina One - found a great 4 bedroom oceanfront house called Slow M'Ocean and were able to rent it for the week for right at $5,000. Our last spring break trip to IOP (2018) we spent easily 2/3rds that much for a 3 bedroom condo.

One thing we learned...double check addresses. At points along the island there are A and B addresses; this is where two houses are built on the same piece of land with A being on the roadside side of the property and B being beachfront. Luckily we were a B, and after walking across the dunes were maybe 20 feet from the high tide line.

It was cool and windy so it limited our time on the beach, but we did take one afternoon and walked down to the north/east end of the island where we could see the Morris Island lighthouse.

We took one afternoon to go into downtown Charleston. Walked through the market then ate a late lunch at Fleet Landing (shrimp & grits were ok, but have had better in the area; waterfront dining view was great) then to Carmella's for dessert (strawberry gelato was amazing) and the pineapple fountain to walk along the water. There was a busker playing trombone by the fountain and my 3 year old loved it. Kinda reminded me of the guys playing in Jackson Square in NOLA.

The next day we went to Magnolia Plantation & Gardens. They have gone from a general admission ticket with multiple add-on options to an all inclusive with the only add-ons being the house or boat tour. It's great for pricing/budgeting but we felt like the nature tram ride has been really shortened both in time and amount of the property you see.

We left Magnolia and had dinner at Bowen's Island. The atmosphere reminded me of The Wreck over in Mt. Pleasant. Food was really good, loved the low country boil. Views over the marsh were great. Wish we had gone later to be there during sunset.

We did take-out from Coconut Joe's one night. The baja fish tacos and shrimp tacos were good. The grouper bites were amazing.

Several places we wanted to try - Rita's, Chico Feo's, Lost Dog, The Washout - we just didn't have time for or weren't sure how the kids would do in some of the places with live music.

plus showing lower rates of minors using cannabis since there is less black-market product available to them in those states

Would be curious to see some of the research on that. I remember a few studies not that long ago that said the states that had fully legalized it hadn't seen a huge drop in the black market for it because the taxes and other costs associated with the legal weed make it more expensive than the black market version.
Charleston (at least for the most part)? Some of the attractions have added new things to interpret the experience of the enslaved, but most of the war era forts are either preserved or at least memorialized with markers. The crew of the Hundley sub are buried in a well marked grave within Magnolia Cemetery.

That's an older map. South Carolina has legalized medical mj.

Based on walking around downtown Charleston last week, either a lot of folks have their medical card or there isn't a lot of enforcement on recreational.

re: Near Death Experiences

Not anything directly but I had a cousin that coded during hip replacement surgery.

She said she was floating in the room looking down on herself and the medical team working on her, trying to revive her. She said it registered with her that she was dead and wondered who would take care of her husband (he was paralyzed after a series of strokes).

In other words, they're no longer claiming (confirming visual evidence) that the call was correct, just that it still will be enforced?

That's my take. Doesn't matter if video evidence shows that it was the right call or just not enough to say one way or the other. Either way it is upheld.
