There are 20 or 30 guys faster than Kylian Mbappe at the draft every year that end up undrafted free agents.
+1, there's a WR on just about every D1 football team that matches Erling Haaland's physical profile - 6'5" 200 lbs & 4.4 speed.
Haaland is obviously special way beyond physical attributes but the size & speed help him significantly

Or
Your child can play soccer. They are a lock to be a professional, but the level is unknown. Could be EPL or La Liga, could be MLS.
Right now, 19 out of 20 will not choose soccer. Maybe all 20.
This seems a bit disingenous...there are other levels of pro leagues in the big 3 sports too. I think it would be less than 19/20 if they had a guaranteed shot at the Premier League or were getting 4 years at Barcelona's academy similar to college.
I don't think you'd have 19/20 guys signing up to play single-A baseball either

Great post & I think this line in particular echoes the critiques from those in charge. The current system is a free for all, too many cooks in the kitchen. There is so much room for improvement getting everyone on the same page

Thank you. There are so many people acting like we're back to 2006 lmao.
I've been an Georgia/Atlanta sports fan my whole life & know a choke job when I see it. We choked, plain & simple. The 3rd goal in particular was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen from a professional keeper

The coach HAS to be fired after that embarrassing performance
If anything it probably makes him more likely to stay.
I have been a big supporter of Poch, but I think he cost himself some offers missing out on the QFs and cost himself a few more that the team lost in such a careless, sloppy way

I know it's sarcasm but seriously, stick around for the ride. I started following us soccer ages ago after I joined my high school soccer team.
It's come a long way in the last 10-15 years - MLS has about the highest ceiling of any league on earth, other than the Premier League. And thanks to the increasingly well funded academies, we are producing multiple times over the talent that 2000s-2010s US soccer was producing.
Just have to keep getting better though if we're even getting past the round of 16 :dunno:

There were a few times Tim Ream possesed within the Belgium penalty area, that's pretty dang forward imo. It was just disappointing as hell though seeing:
Option #1: Jedi tries to cross & kicks it off the planet
Option #2: Balogun tries to get cute & gives it away immediately
Option #3: US players go down for the 12 millionth uncalled foul. And I'm not complaining about the ref, I'm complaining about the US playing like soft bitches instead of adjusting their strategy. They lost possession at least a dozen times in the second half by doing this.
This was a baaaaaad performance. Credit to Belgium for knocking us off of our game. It just sucks to lose this way knowing that this was far and away the most talented, capable team we've ever had. We choked big time. Look at how we played with Gio Reyna in the 2nd half. We dominated Belgium until Freese gave up a brainless goal. WTF.
Remember USA-England 2010...Freese was the English keeper there. Just an all time facepalm. Time to step away from the keyboard, I'll be melting for days over this

They've been playing hard & pretty much dominated the 2nd half if not for Matt Freese forgetting that he has a brain. They've just choked.
The USA has lost this game as much as Belgium has won it unfortunately. It's pathetic & embarassing. Time to check out for a bit lol.

Moment was too big for them. This generation is out of excuses.
Yup. It's nice to see that we're much improved though. We are miles better than the 2010 & 2014 teams talent wise & tactically. And we will be fine for 2030 & 2034.
But this is for a trip to the quarterfinals. This is big boy, top 10 soccer. And we are playing it. But we effed up TWICE and dont deserve to advance. It's just frustrating & bittersweet
Wooooooow the dumbest decision you could possibly make there wtf freese

This refs dodgy
Honestly it's such a beat down that complaining about the ref hasnt even entered my mind. The US has had loads of errant passes, they're playing for the foul a little TOO much, and they're just a step or 2 off sync so far.
Belgium is really good & credit to them; they've clearly thrown us off our game. Some of it is that we are just respecting the Belgians' ability that much more, but man it feels like we have several more gears we can hit before its over. I've said 3-2 wins this game all week, just hope we're the 3
It seems like Dest is having the worst game of his life, just giving it away over & over

If people want to argue with the "rules" on paper about retroactively overturning a call like that, fine
It's funny to me that all the same people saying "intent doesn't matter you have to go by the written rule" are now saying "well no not those rules."
And saying intent doesn't matter already feels like a stretch, the rules have plenty of classic lawyer, intentionally vague wording such as "intensity if the foul" & "IF the official determines" etc.

/soccer & /world cup subs are like a beehive. I've never seen so many people angrily making bad arguments and ignoring fact after fact. If trolling is your thing, it's very entertaining
Surprisingly, pro-American takes are rising through the bullshite too.

It is kind of dumb but again it’s not without precedent, they’ve done this before in other WCs.
I found this excellent article from the BBC, had no idea that they've been making these decisions for decades.

But if they were doing this the answer should be lift the red card. If it’s a valid red card he should serve it the next game imo
Idk why you're getting downvoted when you're on the money.
It should either be downgraded to a yellow/no foul or upheld per the rules.
Wtf is a red card but not red enough to sit out a World Cup game (just future tournaments)?? Or does this mean he could play Belgium then FIFA drops the hammer if we played Spain??
They already finished reviewing & made a statement so that couldn't be the hold up either. I don't understand this at all but am not complaining about Balogun playing tomorrow lol
Edit: thanks tigerfan88 for explaining. I was not aware of article 27, makes sense & glad to see FIFA trying to make things right

If we beat Belgium, I think we're right there with Morocco/Columbia in the B+/A- teams range. We would be absolute class & a top 10 team at that point. A good game could beat Spain unless they play their best.
France looks, imo, unstoppable & a tier above everyone else right now, but who knows what could happen
