one EV for local driving and one hybrid for interstate driving.
My Tesla is used for my commute, getting around town, and we’ll take it to my BILs or the lake house(1.5 & 2hrs, respectively), which is 90% of our household driving. My wife has a 5 seat SUV for longer trips and to fill the gaps, though we might size up to a 7-seater in the next few years.

I know this is hard for you, but EV's are never, ever going away. The Tesla model Y is literally the best selling vehicle on the planet.

I think the ev fad will die off over time since they can’t have kids. No wonder they keep having these “ev driver story hours” at children’s libraries

I would love FSD in vehicle other than a tesla.
I might try a tesla lease with FSD at some point, either that or buy something used with the capability. I would never want to own one new, and I am not sure about owning something used. A lease would make sense if it mathed.

Can’t wait for FSD to be the norm. In a generation I predict it’ll be illegal to drive a car yourself on most public roads.
Vehicle deaths are going to drop to near zero.

Why? The battery and drive train has an 8 year, 120,000 mile warranty.

Supposedly, the plan is to license the FSD software to the other manufacturers at some point

And when you can buy a Tesla and have it enter the ride hailing pool on its own and earn money for you, it will really take over.

Range and charging times still need to get better before you see widescale adoption. It will happen at some point.
When you see LE, emergency services, and the military using electric vehicles exclusively then you will know they are ready for mass adoption by the public.

The 2026 curve is about what I have been predicting for a decade. Too many materials bottlenecks, too many market issues. The 16 CARB states, which account for 40% of the US car market, will force adoption here.

Yea it did little to visually quantify or streamline understanding of the data
But, but, but it's from B-C-G!! How could anyone possibly question their greatness? It is solely our own inability to operate at their elevated level that causes us difficulty in understanding it.
FTR, I agree with both of you, but not the worst crap I've seen out of the gold-plated consultancies.

When coupled with Tesla Insurance, it basically pays for itself. Plus the fact it's well worth $99 by itself.

I don’t know about a generation for “most” public roads, but I could see within a generation manual driving becoming illegal on roads/lanes above a certain speed. As just a random example, I could see an interstate highway have “full speed” lanes (75mph) designated for automatic driving vehicles and “slow” lanes (55mph) designated for manual driven vehicles, with a physical divider between them.

It will be when they perfect solid state EV batteries.

Samsung is putting a 600 km under 10 min full charge solid-state EV battery in full production in 2027. High-end manufacturers are looking to use them first -

For a hurricane you just need about 75 miles of charge to get you on one side or the other of the damage path.
Ok, now how much further do you need to drive to find a hotel that isn't full? During our last big one, people were having to drive to San Antonio and Austin to find accomodation.
